Wilder is the first child for the Canadian Tony-nominated actress, who appeared in Midnight in Paris, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and her husband, who appeared in the TV series Bates Motel. They married in May 2015 after a four-month engagement.

Wilder is a new fixture in the U.S. top 1,000 baby name chart, making the cut in 2015 at No. 964. Considered to be a baby boy name, it has nonetheless been chosen by celebrity parents for their daughters, including Donald Faison and CaCee Cobb and musician Michael Hurley. It’s also the name of Goldie Hawn’s grandson via son Oliver.

It’s much more common as a surname than a first name; famous bearers include author Laura Ingalls Wilder, composer Alec Wilder, director Billy Wilder and actor Gene Wilder. Pop culture references to the name include Jack Wilder, the illusionist in the movie Now You See Me, Wilder in the movie The Accidental Husband and Zelos Wilder in the video game “Tales of Symphonia.”

As the trends for word names and surnames as first names continue, Wilder looks set to rise in the baby name chart — it ticks both boxes.
