Olivia Wilde has the right attitude toward breastfeeding

Olivia Wilde is keeping it real about breastfeeding.

The mom of two, who gave birth to daughter Daisy on Oct. 11, has been sharing her motherhood journey on social media, and her pictures perfectly sum up both the joy and the challenges of breastfeeding.

Last week, Wilde revealed her “rookie move” — she ran out of storage bags for her breast milk. Luckily, the Airbnb she was staying in had the perfect alternative: Mason jars.

“[Breastfeeding] is not easy — it’s messy,” Wilde, who also has a 2-year-old son Otis with husband Jason Sudeikis, said in a recent interview. “Like 90 percent of the time you are soaked in milk. It is a difficult thing. But it is, personally for me, a great experience. It should be a choice for everyone. I don’t like the idea of breastfeeding being forced on anyone or anyone feeling guilty.”

These are words all mothers need to hear. All too often, formula feeders are shamed for their choice, when it’s absolutely none of anyone else’s business. As Wilde says, breastfeeding isn’t easy, and for some moms the decision is taken out of their hands.

Of course, breastfeeding isn’t the only challenging aspect of life with a newborn. Even when they’re asleep, babies have the ability to get right in the middle of things. A few weeks ago, Wilde posted an image of her at her computer with her daughter sleeping in a baby sling. Yep, if one word sums up motherhood, it’s multitasking.
