Dancing with the Stars‘ Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd are loving life as new parents — but they’re hoping their newborn son doesn’t follow in their fox-trotting, tangoing footsteps.
The couple appeared on Good Morning America on Friday with their newcomer, Shai Aleksander, to chat about their completely photogenic postpartum life together. Asked when Shai would take up the family vocation, Papa Maks said, “I hope never.”
Mama Murgatroyd agreed completely, which has us wondering if poor Shai is going to be totally outranked at his own wedding someday by his hip, hot, ballroom-rocking parents.

Their segment on GMA was baby Shai’s first public appearance since his birth on Jan. 4. “We just wanted to keep him for ourselves… This is, without a doubt, the best thing that has ever happened to us!” the couple said previously. Well, yeah. That’s usually how it goes.
Parenthood seems to suit Shai’s parents pretty darn well. (We’d kind of like to see them be terrible at something — stop making everything look so easy, hot dancing people with hot, exotic names!). “It’s not about me anymore. It’s all about Shai,” Murgatroyd said. “It’s amazing. I’m OK with it.”
She’s even OK with her (wee bit of an) extra belly pooch, and breast milk stains on her wardrobe.

The posse celebrated their first Valentine’s Day as a family in modern style, professing their undying love for one another in — yup — Instagram posts.

“To the loves of my life … my one and only Valentine, Papa @maksimc … I love you and our little Shai more than ever,” Murgatroyd captioned a picture from the hospital. “This is without a doubt the most special and significant Valentines Day for me #happymom #myeverythings XO.”
The dancing power couple is planning a summer 2017 wedding with baby Shai in attendance. Just stay off the dance floor, little buddy.
