Arkansas Grandmother Is Surrogate for Son and Daughter-in-Law

Patty Resecker is definitely earning extra grandma bragging rights.

The Texarkana, Arkansas, grandmother is planning to be a surrogate for her son and daughter-in-law, Cody and Kayla Jones. Kayla is unable to carry or deliver a baby because of tumor surgery to her uterus when she was a teenager.

It’s too long for a cool hashtag — #MotherInLawDaughterInLawGoals, awkward — but Resecker and Kayla Jones clearly have a way better mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationship than most of the planet enjoys. Jones gushed on Facebook: “I cannot put into words how grateful I am for [Resecker]…Our kid is going to know that he/she was so loved; his grandmother was willing to endure blood draws, intramuscular injections, multiple testing, and nine months of pregnancy to get them here.”

She didn’t stop there about her MIL either (and we’re now making mental notes to finish our thank you cards to our mothers-in-law, send them those photos we promised and opt for cashmere next Christmas instead of acrylic).

“My biggest concern is to make sure not only is the baby healthy, but my mother-in-law stays healthy too,” Jones said to reporters. “Most people don’t like their mother-in-law, but I’ve got a good one… I’m glad it is somebody I can trust.”

Cody Jones, the dad-to-be, is also thrilled (and doesn’t seem to be too weirded out by the whole situation, which is also commendable). He said, “I think it is really special in that way that she will actually be carrying her grandbaby.”

They’re kind of a peculiar Hallmark commercial come to life. We imagine their story is going to raise some eyebrows in Texarkana when grandma starts flaunting her baby bump (that is the sound of us grinding our teeth at that term — please, someone, invent a new way to talk about pregnant bellies). Who cares? We think Resecker is a rock star — and that’s going to be one amazing bond.

Also, Grandma Patty pretty much just called dibs on all the baby snuggling ever. Sorry, parents. You’re solely on diaper duty.
