We continue to be so impressed by the former Kate Middleton‘s relatability and warmth — especially when she’s talking motherhood.
We swooned when the duchess spoke out to advocate for more mental health support and care for mothers, and this Thursday, the Duchess of Cambridge spoke frankly about the challenges of motherhood at an event marking the opening of the Global Academy in London. Kate — in case you live off the grid in a tree house in a Siberian forest — is the mother of Prince George, now 3, and Princess Charlotte, 23 months.

“It is lonely at times,” she told event attendees. “You do feel quite isolated… But actually, so many other mothers are going through exactly what you’re going through. But it’s being brave enough, like you obviously were, to reach out.”
If the Duchess of Cambridge (and beloved wife of Prince William) feels isolated and lonely trying to pull off this motherhood gig, then we all get a free pass to go a little easier on ourselves as moms, right?
Kate was chatting with the co-founders of Mush — an app that makes us think of sled dogs, but has nothing to do with sled dogs whatsoever. Katie Massie Taylor and Sarah Hesz co-created Mush to be a virtual support system connecting new mothers — in hopes of lessening that occasionally overwhelming sense of loneliness so many new moms experience.

We’re not her only tongue-tied fans. Kate also spoke with 16-year-old Oliver Monger about having trouble speaking up and reaching out. Monger told the duchess, “Meeting you is a new thing. I don’t really know how to speak to someone so high. I’m quite shy.”
Kate reassured him, “I’m shy as well, so don’t worry.” Man, that kid is going to be crushing on her for life. Not that we are, or anything. We’re totally cool, very chill. Royalty schmoyalty.
No, but seriously: Princess Diana would have adored her daughter-in-law, we think.
