Uh-oh. Is your baby gate part of the latest recall?
Madison Mill has alerted parents to a recall of two versions of the company’s popular baby gates. The gates in question are the Madison Mill 23, which expands to 3 feet, and the Madison Mill 25, which expands to 5 feet wide.
The reason for the recall? Potential strangulation and entrapment — scary stuff.

“A young child’s neck can fit into the ‘V’ shaped opening along the top edge of the gate, posing entrapment and strangulation hazards to young children,” The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said on its website. “Also, young children can pass under the gate allowing access to restricted areas, such as stairs.”
Both types of gates were sold in hardware stores and online between January 2013 and May 2017. Madison Mill urges customers to stop using these gates immediately and to contact the company for a full refund.

Word of caution: Though the recall is specifically related to Madison Mill gates, if you have a similar foldaway expandable gate in use at home, check carefully to be sure your child’s head or neck cannot squeeze into any of the openings — or fit underneath the gate while it is installed in a doorway.
