Victoria Beckham Is in Tears as Eldest Son Brooklyn Leaves for College

Awww. Who knew that young, poker-faced Posh Spice would grow up to be the weepy mom of a brand-new college freshman? We didn’t see that one coming.

Victoria Beckham needs a hug right now, and many parents of teens can relate. Brooklyn Beckham, Victoria’s oldest son with husband David, left England and headed across the pond to attend Parsons School of Design in New York City.

Victoria posted a sweet Instagram tribute to her son on the occasion, writing, “We are all so proud of you Brooklyn.” The picture shows the designer with tears on her face snuggling close to her 18-year-old, clearly not wanting to say goodbye.

She added, “Amazing A level results and off to college. We love you so much and will miss you. #yesiamcrying #emotional x”

Brooklyn is a fashion photographer who has already published his first book, What I See. He’ll be studying photography (on a merit-based scholarship, by the way, not that he needs a scholarship) at the design school, following in the footsteps of famous Parsons alumni, from Donna Karan to Marc Jacobs to Ryan McGinley.

Mama Beckham is not the only one in the family who’s feeling verklempt about Brooklyn moving to the U.S. this fall. Romeo, Brooklyn’s 14-year-old brother, posted his own (equally heartfelt but perhaps even more enthusiastic) message to Instagram.

“Brooklyn, I am going to miss u sooooo much xx I am so proud of you and can’t believe you have come this far! Good luck in New York! And well done with your A levels xxx” he wrote alongside a photo of himself with his older brother at the Museum of Ice Cream. (Wait, what? Did you know this place was a thing?)

Brooklyn was interviewed in August byGQ about his upcoming move to the Big Apple.

“I’m nervous, and my mum’s upset about me leaving,” he said, “but it’s really exciting. I kind of live in the moment. I don’t think people in New York will annoy me, and I feel like when I go there, I’ll meet lifelong friends. Stuff like that.”

Oh, Brooklyn, we totally agree with you on everything but the not-annoying part. New Yorkers will definitely irritate you at some point — or at least the MTA will (that’s the subway system for you non-New Yorkers). But hey, at least you’ll have great stories to bring back to the Beckham manse for the holidays. And the NYC locals will definitely appreciate your name.

Apparently David Beckham was the one who kicked off Brooklyn’s love of photography by giving him a camera when he was 14. And as for the fashion side of things, well, that’s all Brooklyn’s (still super-posh) mom.

“I do backstage photography at my mum’s shows, and I mean, I love doing it — but my mum’s like, ‘Go take pictures of the models!’ and I’m a bit shy,” Brooklyn said.

We see why they’re going to miss him so much.
