Chip & Joanna Gaines Respond to Pregnancy Rumors

Joanna and Chip Gaines have had it with all the rumors circulating about the reason behind their departure from HGTV’s Fixer Upper — namely, the pregnancy rumor. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight on Oct. 17, the couple responded to gossip suggesting they’re expecting a fifth child.

Joanna told ET, “There’s so many [rumors], even leading up to it — I had this skin care line, so I’m leaving. It made it look like I was doing my own thing and Chip didn’t even know about it. That was just a big rumor. That our marriage is on the rocks… I was pregnant. It’s funny when you start hearing this stuff.”

The Gaineses announced last month that their popular show would be ending after its fifth season — and a howl of existential home-improvement angst rose up from madding throngs on the internet. The couple’s official statement on their blogsaid, “Our plan is to take this time to shore up and strengthen the spots that are weak, rest the places that are tired and give lots of love and attention to both our family and our businesses.”

But that wasn’t enough for disappointed fans, who are still madly swapping theories online about why Chip and Joanna are really leaving their lucrative show — despite the fact that Chip and Joanna themselves literally just offered plenty of reasons for their exit. One major reason: their kids — Drake, 12, Ella, 11, Duke, 9, and Emmie, 7 — who had become disenchanted with their parents’ intense 11-out-of-12-month Fixer Upper production schedule. “They would ask, ‘Mom and Dad, do you guys have to film again today? When is this going to be over?” Chip told People. In the same interview, Joanna added. “Fast-forward to today and our oldest is almost a teenager — they’re all growing up so quickly.”

People, they do have four kids already. It wouldkind of make sense that Chip and Joanna are putting family first, no? Four kids is a lot of work even if you’re not the star of your own TV show.

Chip told Today, “For us, the most important thing in the world is Jo and I’s relationship, followed very quickly by these four beautiful kids. We didn’t want to push it, to redline it for so long that we woke up and realized we are at a point of no return. We wanted to take a step back and focus on what is absolutely the most important thing to us.” Sounds legit to us. Any other theories out there? Because we think Joanna and Chip have pretty much covered all the bases. Nothing to see here, folks. Move along.
