Did We Just Get Gender-Played by Kate Middleton?

The Duchess of Cambridge, the former Kate Middleton will not pander to the internet’s incessant baby-gender speculation, thankyouverymuch. She’ll let the knocked-up Kardashian crew drop clue crumbs on social media for us to scarf up, but as you should know by now, that’s not the way of the Kate.

The duchess is expecting her third child with Prince William, but she’s making sure to keep the sex of the next heir a secret. As for those internet guessing games? Well, she has them played. How does our beloved princess, er, duchess do it? By oh-so-cheekily — and constantly — swapping out blue and pink in her wardrobe. Both hues are getting equal time in the public eye, and she looks fab in both. Note the chic blue floral she was sporting (above) at a charity event on Jan. 10 in London for the Reach Academy with Place2Be. The duchess is always gorgeous in blue, but by the time the internet was whipping out the “it’s a boy!” proclamations, Kate had already switched to pink for a visit to Coventry Cathedral on Jan. 16.

So maybe she finally found out it’s a girl after all? Psych — just yesterday, the blue was back, as Kate showed to support children’s mental health at the Roe Green School in London.

And don’t even get us started on that blue-themed holiday portrait released by Kensington Palace on their — supremely modern — Instagram feed. (They’re all wearing blue! All of them!)

And don’t forget Kate’s first blue-lace public appearance after recovering from her severe morning sickness. Surely that was a clue, no? No.

Because there’s Kate in one of her fave designers — Jenny Packham — wearing a delicious pale pink as she twirls with Paddington Bear at another charity event in London (like you do).

Well played, Kate. You really had us for a while there — and then again and again, ad infinitum, or at least until this baby is born. Guess we have no choice after all except to behave and wait nicely for said baby — without further gossiping over a potential “clue” to its sex. But we won’t be mad at you, Kate. We don’t hate the player; we just hate the game.
