What is this, TheHandmaid’s Tale: Coachella Edition? No twerking while pregnant or Aunt Lydia shows up with a Taser? I refuse to live in a world where pregnant women are shamed for twerking, but sadly, that’s where we are.
Cardi B confirmed her pregnancy on SNL on April 7, leading fans to question whether or not she’d perform at Coachella as planned.

Well, not only did Cardi B knock out an amazing performance at Coachella, she also twerked up a storm, igniting a Twitter brushfire. Or dumpster fire, depending on your feelings about Twitter trolls.
Let’s rewind for a little backstory first, shall we? Just after Cardi B’s big SNL pregnancy reveal, the singer told Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club that she has no patience for the antiquated idea that a woman must choose between career or family. According to People, Cardi B said, “It just really bothers me and it disgusts me because I see a lot of women online like, ‘I feel sorry for you. Your career is over.’ And it’s like, why can’t I have both? Why do I gotta choose a career or a baby? Why can’t I have both? I want both.”
Well, her Coachella performance is perfect proof that she’s determined to have both — and do both on her terms. It was Day 3 of Coachella when Cardi B — reportedly seven months pregnant — burst onto stage in a white jumpsuit and ponytails to bust out a medley of her hits. And that’s when Twerkgate began. Cardi B twerked it and worked it — and the internet freaked the hell out.

After her set, people had a lot to say on Twitter (shocker). Responses included run-of-the-mill pissed-off frat-boy misogyny and cranky mansplaining of what pregnant women “should not be doing.”

Sorry Cardi B, but no one wants to see a pregnant woman twerk. Stop that. Just…no. 🤦♂️

And TBH, some women weren’t thrilled with the pregnant twerking either.

But others called B.S. on the Cardi B haters.

Why does Cardi B's pregnant twerk bother some so much?
Stay nauseated and miserable, because women don't need your permission to have fun, as any stage of their lives!

Preach!

Let’s get something straight: Exercise (including twerking) is A-OK for pregnant women. In fact, it’s encouraged. And all you fellas who are so appalled by a pregnant woman busting out some sexy moves? Um, you know how babies are made, right?
We’re filing Twerkgate under “misogynistic slut-shaming” and slamming the door on it. Twerk on, Cardi B. We’ll listen to the haters when they’re invited to perform at Coachella.
