It turns out, keeping your parents humble might actually pay off! Especially if you call them out in a very public way in a national magazine like North West recently did. Kim Kardashian just shared a new photo of a family bonding activity she did with her four kids — North, 11, Saint, 8, Chicago, 6, and Psalm, 5, who she shares with ex Kanye West — and we have a sneaking suspicion the whole thing was prompted by her eldest daughter’s latest comments.
The Kardashians star shared a photo on her Instagram story Thursday featuring her recent family bonding activity: making cupcakes! She posted a picture of a platter of vanilla cupcakes, decorated with white icing. Some of the cupcakes had a Reece’s cup cut in half and candy eyeballs to make it look like bats, while others had orange pumpkin and brown bat sprinkles covering the top. They look messy and delicious.
“Baked w the kids last night,” she captioned the photo. (PEOPLE has a screenshot HERE.) Homemade baking and cupcake decorating? Yeah, this is much different from the typical Kardashian-catered creations. Case in point: an earlier Instagram story of an elaborate edible haunted house with candy ghosts and personalized names sent by her sister Kourtney Kardashian and husband Travis Barker. We can’t help but think this bit of domestic bliss was inspired by something North said in a recent interview with her mom for Interview Magazine.
When the SKIMS founder asked North how her cooking was, the pre-teen hilariously called her out. “You haven’t cooked for us in a long time. Last time you cooked was two Halloweens ago,” she said. (I mean, if I was a billionaire, I would hire a chef too TBH!)
During the conversation, North revealed that her mom made her famous dish, which is apparently mac and cheese, fried chicken, and cornbread. “I’m a one-trick pony. Is that one meal good?” Kardashian asked her daughter.
“It’s good. It’s just that you’re really good at making me cucumbers and salt,” she added. Hmm, and cupcakes too!
Sometimes the simple things in life are the best. In a 2023 episode of her Hulu reality show, Kardashian shared that sometimes North complains about her mom’s luxe lifestyle. “She’ll go to her dad’s. She’ll be like, ‘Dad’s the best! He has it all figured out,’” she recalled. “He doesn’t have a nanny, he doesn’t have a chef, he doesn’t have security, he lives in an apartment.’ And she’ll start crying: ‘Why don’t you have an apartment? I can’t believe we don’t have an apartment!’”
Kardashian added that North brags about them making their “own food” at West’s place. Kim sarcastically noted, “That’s amazing that you make ramen, you know?”
We want to give our kids the world, but sometimes they just need quality time and some messy at-home cooking. For those of us who aren’t billionaires, that’s such a relief!
