Siblings are built-in friends … and built-in antagonizers. Who else knows your deepest insecurities and flaws and presses on them like a bruise (which they probably gave you in the first place)? I’ve seen my three kids fight like cats and dogs, then turn around five minutes later and cuddle together under one blanket to watch a movie. As someone with five siblings myself, I know that the fights are temporary, and the love runs deep — even if I do have to remind myself of that during my kids’ spats. It’ll all be worth it one day! Drew Scott and his wife Linda Phan are going through that right now with their two kids, Parker, 2, and Piper, 5 months. The couple revealed how their toddler reacted to seeing his baby sister for the first time, and the story is so, so funny.
Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos hosted A Sense of Home Gala on Oct. 24, which the HGTV star attended with Phan. She told PEOPLE that the “best part” of welcoming a new baby to their family was “seeing the siblings bond,” referring to Parker and Piper. But it hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing so far.
“Yeah, seeing Parker as a big brother to Piper is pretty cool. At first he was a little unsure, and then now they seem like the best of buds,” the Property Brothers co-host told the outlet.
Phan added with a laugh, “I mean, there are days when it’s like, ‘Oh, I don’t know, can we return her?’ That’s what he thinks, but they’re going to be best friends now.”
Can we return her?! That is so cute! Poor kid, he doesn’t realize yet he’ll be stuck with a little sister for life (but don’t worry, he’ll love it eventually!)
Scott recalled some of the struggles they had in the early days. “Yeah, in the beginning it was a little like, ‘Who is this stealing my attention?’” he said. “But now he seems to love it, and it seems like she’s sort of picking things up fast watching him. She’s only five months, but the look on her face when she just watches him is pretty sweet.”
“Oh, her brother’s the funniest thing in the world,” Phan added.
Things seem to be going much better now for the siblings, but the parents are more exhausted than ever. “Girl dad life. So far, no different,” the Backed by the Bros star told the outlet. “We have a toddler that’s racing around. He’s more work right now than a five-month old, but it’s pretty amazing, yeah. We are tired. Do we look tired?”
Speaking of siblings, Scott’s own brother Jonathan Scott couldn’t help but tease his twin during a June interview with Entertainment Tonight. “With Parker, we got pretty good, you know, nephew vibes,” Jonathan said. And his fiancée Zooey Deschanel chimed in, “TBD, TBD” about how they feel about Piper. “Cute, but we’ll see.” As if they wouldn’t love their new niece no matter what!
With Drew and Jonathan to look up to, something tells us Parker and Piper will be just fine!
