Heidi Klum’s Halloween costumes are legendary — Jessica Rabbit? The Worm?! — and we are so excited to see what she’ll come up with this year. So it’s more than a little surprising that the Queen of Halloween herself admits she’s not the best at costumes. Instead, she gives that title to her 15-year-old daughter Lou! Klum revealed that her youngest daughter is “more talented” than her at making Halloween costumes, and we are impressed.
The supermodel, who shares Lou, Johan, 17, Henry, 19, and Leni, 20, with ex-husband Seal, told PEOPLE on Oct. 29 that her kids “have their own ideas” about how to dress up for the big day. And Lou is the most dedicated.
“I mean, Lou, especially. She makes her own things,” Klum told the outlet. “She’s also really into anime. She makes all the wigs herself, like all the pink ones … so she does that all by herself. She’s pretty talented, I have to say, more talented than me when it comes to building things.”
How amazing is that? Klum gave more details about the work Lou puts into her costumes each year. “She buys all the accessories and then she puts a little mask on, like a real proper one,” Klum continued. “She [wears the mask] when she’s like sanding things down and she’s building things so that she doesn’t inhale all the dust. She does it properly. If anyone has the major block about dressing up and that stuff, it would be my Lou.”
The America’s Got Talent judge herself has a whole team who helps her prep for hours on Oct. 31. She told USA TODAY this morning that her costume prep will “take a hot minute.” She plans to start prepping at 11 a.m. and finish by 9 p.m. for the red carpet for her annual bash tonight.
“I pretty much start the next day (after Halloween the year prior) … I wrack my brain,” she told USA TODAY. “Why do people figure it out two days before? It’s hard.”
Now that’s dedication! It’s no surprise that one of her kids got bit by the costume-making bug if they see their mom prepping for the holiday all year long. And if you’re wondering what she’s going to dress up as tonight, SheKnows got a few clues.
“It’s a couple’s costume, it is outer-worldly and I’m not very tall,” Klum dished in an interview with us earlier this month. She and husband Tom Kaulitz dressed up like a magnificent peacock and an egg last year, so we can only imagine what kind of couple’s costume she has in mind this year. It’s going to be fabulous!
