Bindi Irwin’s Daughter Grace Helps Release a Huge Green Sea Turtle Back to the Wild in Incredible New Photos

Helping animals is the core of what the Irwins do, a legacy started decades ago by the late Steve Irwin. Now, the youngest member of the family is getting in on the action. Bindi Irwin and husband Chandler Powell’s 3-and-a-half-year-old daughter Grace Warrior just assisted in the release of a rehabilitated green sea turtle back to the wild — and the incredible new pictures prove how much joy she gets from these conservation efforts.

“Aurora the green sea turtle was found stranded and unwell,” Bindi’s mom Terri Irwin posted on Instagram this week. “After spending time at the @australiazoo Wildlife Hospital, this 165kg (363lbs) girl was successfully released back to the wild. Live well.❤️”

How incredible is that? Terri also shared photos of the big day, which included the help of several Australia Zoo crew members to lift the massive sea turtle and get her back to the sea. In one photo, Terri smiles next to her kids Bindi and Robert Irwin behind the sea turtle, with little Grace reaching over to pet the turtle’s back.

Grace, who is also dressed in khaki, smiles with both hands on the turtle’s back in another snap, as she crouches down next to the creature with her mom by her side. Bindi, Robert, and Grace follow the turtle to the water, where they make sure she gets in safely. In the last photo, Grace rests her head on her mom’s shoulder as they both look out at the water to catch a glimpse of Aurora swimming away to freedom. It’s such a beautiful moment!

“This day was truly extraordinary. ❤️” Bindi commented on the post. Someone else commented, “Grace has to be having the best childhood ever possible! So much love and so much nature and learning by getting involved.”

“The first of many releases of many different critters in Grace’s future!! 🙏🤍🙏” someone else said.

Earlier this week, the Crikey! It’s the Irwins star shared photos of Grace helping feed a giraffe named Zarafa, proving she isn’t intimidated by wildlife at all.

“Giraffe breakfast time. I will note that it’s important to feed giraffes with Donald Duck. 💛🥰” Bindi captioned the post, referring to Grace’s little toy helper. “Zarafa is our beautiful young giraffe who is definitely Grace’s buddy. They are so sweet together. We are incredibly proud to be doing our part to protect this iconic species.”

Caring for vulnerable creatures is such an important lesson to learn, and it’s inspiring seeing Grace demonstrate this level of empathy at such a young age.
