Keke Palmer Snuggles With Baby Leo After ‘Concerning’ Election News: ‘I’m a Silver Linings Girl’

Sometimes, being a mom means kissing our baby’s boo-boos. Other times, our little ones bring us comfort in a way nothing else can. The latter is true for Keke Palmer. She is embracing her baby Leodis “Leo,” 20 months, after the “concerning” results of the 2024 election, and it’s such a sweet reminder that the sun will rise another day.

The Bosses star took to Instagram today to process her feelings about former president and convicted felon Donald Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential election on Nov. 6. Palmer, who was a vocal Harris supporter, feels as shocked and saddened by this news as many other parents who are worried about our children’s future.

“I don’t wanna say anything dramatic and sad, I’m a silver linings girl,” the “Ungorgeous” singer wrote. She shared several photos of her hugging Leo outside an airport, where he looked adorable with braids in his hair and a white silky bomber jacket with dolphins on the back. In some pictures, she looks pensive, in others she smiles at her baby boy, clearly finding her silver lining in her son.

Still, she doesn’t want to just give a blanket statement that “everything will be OK” or to “look on the bright side,” for example, because that feels disingenuous too. “But I also don’t wanna be toxically positive,” Palmer continued. “I really do wish everyone good spirits. I know the last few days have been so concerning. It’s so easy for me to think about others, but I had to check myself because thinking about others in so many ways has become a privilege in this world. Giving means you have something to give and so many do not because first, they have to survive.”

“So, if you have to be selfish because you have to survive, I get it. God bless you!” she added. “Take care of you! Best way YOU know how 🫶🏾”

People were praising this raw take in the comments. “I took a day off from work today. I had to. Reading all day. 🩷🦋” one person wrote. Another said, “A word. It’s ok to make sure you’re ok first before helping others. Loving the photos of you just being a mom. 😍”

“I resonate with those first three lines so much. Definitely a glass half full type of woman but it’s hard to see the light … everywhere I turn it’s not looking good & that in itself is so overwhelming. Praying for our community 💛” someone else commented.

Earlier this week, before the election results were announced, the Nope star shared an adorable picture of her and Leo meeting Vice President Harris. Leo was much younger then and was being held by Palmer’s ex Darius Jackson in the cute snap. Baby Leo was chunky and cute, as he gave Harris a huge grin. She leaned down to get closer to his level matching his smile in the heartfelt moment.

“The first time we met I felt your deep passion for your work. I didn’t know a lot about you other than you were smart and you were my VP, but I didn’t know your specific mission until then,” Palmer wrote in the caption to Harris. “I didn’t expect for us to even get into much of a convo but we did and you got me. I’ll never forget the voicemail I heard when I got back from the hospital after giving birth to Leodis, ‘This is Vice President Kamala Harris, wanting to wish a very happy welcome to Leodis.’ My heart!” Can you imagine? That would be the coolest welcome to the world ever!

In the caption, the Baby, This Is Keke Palmer podcast host reflected on a past episode interviewing Harris. “And when you came on my podcast, I knew I interviewed the VP but I had no idea I was interviewing our future President,” Palmer wrote. “What I wanted people to see was what I saw when we had that first talk, you made being a leader seem effortless and I think that’s important. To see our heroes as people because then we know we can be heroes too.”

@kamalaharris, I am so blown away and so grateful to you for your unwavering strength,” she added. “These people have said every single thing under the sun that they could say about you and all we see is YOUR SMILE. YOUR JOY. YOUR PEACE AND YOUR LIGHT. I thank you, for showing us what PERSEVERANCE is. What GRACE under fire is and what we really are meant to stand for… Liberty and justice, FOR ALL. I can’t wait to say, ‘We Did It Kamala!’”

Reading this back now is heartbreaking, but it doesn’t diminish the amazing campaign Harris ran or the inspiration she gave to women and girls everywhere. Even in her concession speech, Harris encouraged Americans. “On the campaign, I would often say, ‘When we fight, we win.’ But here’s the thing, sometimes the fight takes a while. That doesn’t mean we won’t win,” she said in part.

Harris added, “There’s an adage a historian once called a law of history, it’s true of every society across the ages. The adage is: ‘Only when it is dark enough can you see the stars.’ I know many people feel like we are entering a dark time but for the benefit of us all, I hope that is not the case. But here’s the thing, America, if it is, let us fill the sky with the light of a brilliant, brilliant billion of stars.”
