Like many people, Madonna made family time a priority over Thanksgiving week. She just shared rare photos of her six kids and her 93-year-old dad Silvio Ciccone from over the holidays and wrote a heartwarming tribute to family that will leave you teary-eyed.
The Queen of Pop sits on a bench in front of a large tree next to her dad, all bundled up for the chilly air, in the first snap. Her children Lourdes Leon, 28, Rocco Ritchie, 24, David Banda, 19, Mercy James, 18, and 12-year-old twins Estere and Stella are all clustered around in the stunning picture. Everyone looks dressed for fall in plaid shirts, sweaters, beanies, jackets, jeans, and even a matching brown corduroy blazer and pants for Rocco.
Other intimate family moments were caught on camera, including one snap of Ciccone crying that’s incredibly emotional. In the caption, the “Like a Virgin” star wrote about the importance of family, especially at this time of year.
“We are born into families and we create our own,” Madonna wrote. “As time goes by I am more and more appreciative of these microcosms of life that Dance around me and teach me lessons every day.”
She went on to talk about the family she has lost this year, including Madonna’s stepmother Joan Gustafson Ciccone, who died on Sept. 24 at 81 of cancer, and her brother Christopher Gerard Ciccone, who died on Oct. 4 at 63, per PEOPLE.
“My Family has experienced many losses this year. My father has endured with Dignity,” Madonna continued. “Watching him cry in the cemetery when we buried my brother Christopher — right after he lost his wife. Was a moment I will never forget.”
“Spending time with him and all my children on Thanksgiving was Medicine for the Soul. 🍁🤎,” she added. What an absolute inspiration!
“What a beautiful portrait of you all and the right words to frame it ❤️” one person commented. Someone else said, “Once again you made me cry after reading your post. Thank you for sharing your life with us and this beautiful set of pictures!”
In June, Madonna shared pictures of her and her dad throughout the years to honor his birthday. “To The O.G. Daddy—-Happy 93rd Birthday Silvio!” she wrote. “Congratulations for riding the roller coaster of life with humor and sanity intact. Thank you for sharing your mantra in life with me: which is. ‘Im Gonna Go until the Wheels fall off.’ Nothing can stop us! Love you to the moon and back. 🩷❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜🤎🖤🩶🤍❤️🩹”
It’s clear Madonna puts family above all else, and we’ve never admired her more.
