At the risk of sounding 80 years old, cartoons these days just aren’t the same. (Except for you, Bluey, we love you!) I’ll never forget trying to get my kids to watch some of my favorite shows from the ‘90s, like Rugrats — or even older cartoons that were still popular at the time like The Flintstones — and them lasting 2.5 seconds before requesting something else. There’s no arguing with taste, is there?! Andy Cohen is trying, though. The Bravo TV host attempted “to explain” some of his vintage pop culture toys to his 5-year-old son Ben, and the video is so funny.
“Trying to explain my pop culture action figures to my son,” Cohen wrote over a video on Instagram this week. He’s filming a pile of toys spread out over the floor, featuring many familiar faces like Buzz Lightyear, Curious George, Bart Simpson, and Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street. But there are also some interesting characters that even most Millennials probably don’t recognize, and Ben has the cutest reaction.
“Daddy, Daddy, what is this?” Ben asks, grabbing a toy of Pebbles and Bam Bam on a seesaw dinosaur. “That’s from The Flintstones,” Cohen responds, adding, “I’ll show you that.” Who knows? It might still hold up today!
“Here’s Butt-Head, or Beavis,” Cohen says, picking up a character from the famous ‘90s cartoon. “This guy, his name might be Butt-Head,” Cohen continues (can confirm it is!), which makes Ben burst into laughter.
The Watch What Happens Live host also points out Marge Simpson and “the cruise director, Julie McCoy,” from the ‘70s sitcom, The Love Boat. “Who wants a Julie McCoy doll?” he asks. Later, he finds Beavis, explaining to Ben, “That’s either Beavis or Butt-Head.” Love how even he can’t keep the characters straight!
Another random pop culture toy? “The mascots from Lillehamer Olympics, Kristin and Håkon,” he explains, referring to the ’94 Winter Olympics held in Norway. Because of course it is!
Later, Ben held up Blossom from PowerPuff Girls (one of my old favorites!), and Cohen was stumped again. “I don’t know what that is,” he admits.
“Toys that are hard to explain….” Cohen captioned the funny video. There’s nothing like pulling out some of your once-beloved toys for your kids that’ll make you feel old!
“Oh my GOSH😂😂😂 I lol’d out loud with Ben. Love that you are introducing him to all these characters❤️A trip down memory lane,” one person commented. Someone else wrote, “His squeal of joy from Butt Head!😍 I lol’d”
“What a freakin awesome collection!!!” another praised. So true. Ben doesn’t even know how lucky he is to get to play with these toys!
Cohen, who is also dad to 2-year-old daughter Lucy, shared a rare picture of his two kids together last week. The trio was traveling ahead of the Thanksgiving holidays, and Ben pointed to something out the window at the airport for Lucy to look at. These two looked adorable in matching dark brown hair, each one wearing matching sweatsuits and sneakers.
During the Thanksgiving weekend, Cohen and his kids visited the St. Louis Zoo with Cohen’s mom Evelyn. They saw a penguin and another aquatic bird. “We had the GREATEST TIME,” he wrote over a picture on his Instagram story, per PEOPLE.
In a video after the fact, per PEOPLE, one of Cohen’s kids said from off-camera, “I loved when the penguins pooped.” Yep, that tracks!
