While some kids’ music is cute and fun, others makes us feel like we’re losing our minds. Especially when we hear it on repeat, day in and day out. (Toddlers, man!) Even celebrities have to suffer — er, listen — to kids’ music, and like us, they don’t always enjoy it either. Blake Lively recently opened up about this experience in a new interview, in which she described her life as being in “musical hell” with her 1-year-old son Olin, who she shares with husband Ryan Reynolds.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporterfor their 2024 Women in Entertainment Power 100 list, the It Ends With Us star shared her “most played song of 2024,” and if you have little kids at home, then this is probably familiar. “Baby Shark, Dance Remix,” she said. “I have a one-year-old. It’s heaven — and also musical hell,” she jokingly added.
The Blake Brown founder isn’t wrong! It can feel like we’re trapped in some mind-numbingly loop of over-stimulating music when our kids request the music.
When “Let It Go” from Disney’s Frozen took over the charts (and toddler homes everywhere) in 2013, I narrowly escaped the hype because I was not a mom yet. But a few years later, “Baby Shark,” from the South Korean entertainment company Pinkfong, became a hit, and my toddler was obsessed. Since then, my kids have gone through phases of their favorite music, a mix of melodies from Cocomelon and other catchy (and annoying!) hits. In fact, one of my top 5 artists on Apple Music Replay for 2024 was Mickey Mouse himself, with Disney’s Mickey Mouse Clubhouse soundtrack and Disney’s Wish soundtrack taking two of my top five albums spot.
Luckily, Lively’s older kids seem to have great taste in music: namely, from global superstar Taylor Swift, who happens to be one of the Gossip Girl star’s closest friends. Lively and Reynolds took their daughters James, 9, Inez, 8, and Betty, 5, to several of Swift’s The Eras Tours shows. At one concert in which Lively and her daughters were in attendance, the Grammy winner said on stage, per PEOPLE, “I have to say that on Folklore, some of my favorite characters are named James, Inez and Betty,” referring to the song “Betty” that features the names of Lively’s daughters.
With Taylor Swift and “Baby Shark” songs on repeat, what more could you ever need?
