Katie Holmes Is in Mama Bear Mode After ‘Completely False’ Reports That Daughter Suri Received Millions From Tom Cruise

Katie Holmes is channeling her inner mama bear after reports started circulating about her 18-year-old daughter Suri’s finances. In an utterly iconic move, the A-lister posted a screenshot of a story from The Daily Mail with the headline, “Suri Cruise the millionaire! Tom Cruise‘s trust fund has ‘kicked in’ and mom Katie Holmes has one for her too.”

“Completely False,” Holmes wrote over the photo. “Daily mail you can stop making stuff up.” She then captioned the Instagram post, “Enough.”

And if you’re thinking this was simply a move by a disgruntled divorcee, think again. There’s a sobering reason why Holmes wants the truth about Suri’s money (or lack thereof!) out there. While there were many supportive comments on Holmes’ post (“I’m so proud of you for calling them out,” actress Zoey Deutch wrote.), others rolled their eyes at the family’s champagne problems.

“Gosh the hardships you guys face Hey are you worried if you can pay your rent AND eat this month? No? Yea me either 😅🙄,” one person commented. “I Wish these were my problems … big picture dear. A story in a rag media outlet, when there are moms in parts of this world who hope their daughters just survive the day.”

Holmes responded to the comment saying she didn’t disagree with their point. “But in the world today, I don’t want a target on my child’s back. It’s dangerous.”

Exactly. Sure, people know that Suri — who seemingly dropped her father’s last name — is wealthy. She’s the daughter of two highly successful Hollywood actors. But “news” that she allegedly just got access to a trust fund with millions makes her an even bigger target for people looking to take advantage of her. And that — the idea that she might get “taken advantage of” by some “friends” who just want a few free meals — is the best-case scenario. We won’t even go into the worst.

Given the logistics of Cruise and Suri’s notoriously estranged relationship, we wonder if a trust fund would even be possible. After Cruise and Holmes divorced in 2012, the actress and her daughter left the Church of Scientology — where Cruise is one of the largest figureheads. There was speculation that things would change between the father and daughter this year once she turned 18. Holmes, having left the Church as an adult, was deemed a “Suppressive Person” or someone who does suppressive acts against the Church. A Suppressive Person is basically considered an enemy of the Church.

Suri, by association, was considered a “Potential Trouble Source,” which is a step removed from enemy territory. But, as long as Suri sides with her mom, the Church dictates that Cruise can’t get in touch. At least, that’s the case for “typical” members.

“If you are a regular church member you could be told to disconnect from your wife and daughter, but because Tom is a celebrity — he’s the top celebrity — he gets to ignore all this stuff,” Scientology reporter Tony Ortega said when Suri’s 18th birthday was approaching and people were wondering if she would get a call from Cruise. “Your average member would be kicked out [for being in contact], but [the leader of Scientology] David Miscavige can’t do that with Tom.”

And while Miscavige might let a birthday card slide, we have to imagine he would get involved if there were millions on the line. But, if what Holmes said is true, there’s no need to imagine. It’s all “completely false.”
