There are (*trigger alert*!) 15 days until Christmas, which doesn’t seem like a lot. Until you remember it’s 14 more days of Elf on the Shelf. Yes, kids love this visitor from the North Pole who cause sweet shenanigans at home. Parents, on the other hand? We aren’t huge fans of all the work it takes to create elaborate elf set-ups for our kids to find in the morning. To make sure this daily duty is split evenly — as many examples of holiday magic rest solely on Mom’s shouldersJenna Dewan has a brilliant negotiation tactic with her fiancé Steve Kazee. And you’ll want to steal this tonight!

The Rookie star, who is mom to Rhiannon, 5 months, and Callum, 4, with Kazee, and Everly, 11, with ex-husband Channing Tatum, shared several pictures of her wild holiday celebrations with her kids on Instagram today. In one, she shared a text exchange between her and her husband — and it’s genius.

“Do you want to move the elf or get up with baby in night lol,” Dewan asked her fiancé in a screenshot. The tactical efficiency of this choice! There’s no fighting over whose turn it is or getting confused about your responsibility. She gave him an equally hard choice and is OK with handling the other!

“I’ll get up with the baby,” Kazee responded, because even that’s easier than figuring out something creative enough for the kids! Dewan responded with a series of laughing emojis. We love seeing this peek into their relationship and how they evenly split tasks. (And if you don’t have a baby that wakes up in the night, you can give your partner the option of a different chore that you don’t particularly love either!)

Later, she shared the genius way she set the elves up, including a first aid kit opened on the floor and tons of band-aids out to hold two elves up on the wall. “Whoops! I found your bandaids and got stuck!” a note stuck to the wall with another band-aid read.

The Step Up alum also shared photos and videos of her family’s holiday preparations, including one video of her standing on the ladder to decorate the tree, while her pre-teen helps string lights, her son asks to help, and her fiancé sits on the floor next to a playmat where their baby is doing tummy time. Such a candid and fun moment! Another time, her son jumps on a Nugget couch, swinging Christmas lights around (which are plugged into the wall, BTW). Another time, he put stockings on his hands like boxing gloves and pretended to fight the tree. It’s just like our house!

It wasn’t all chaos, though. There were plenty of sweet moments, like when Callum and Rhiannon smiled at each other at a Christmas tree farm, when Everly held her baby sister on the couch, and when Rhiannon rocked a Santa hat and jammies inside a baby bouncer.

Dewan embraced the reality of her family’s adorably chaotic holiday spirit in the caption. “If only we gotten it together and worn matching pjs too 🎄,” she said. Oh well, there’s always next year!

“Ok I’m sorry, the stockings as boxing gloves…genius ♥️👍🏻😘” one person commented. Someone else quipped, “good choice steve😂😂😂 @stevekazee.” “Getting up with baby is def the easier option 💯 🤣” another wrote. So true!

“I love this little chaotic family and I can’t wait the for 2024 Christmas Card Family Pic bc 2023 was everything 😂😂😂😂!” someone else commented, referring to the family’s matching pajama holiday card last year, which included the family’s four dogs Wylie, Cosmo, Stella, and Meeka.

“‘Twas a good time had by all 😅,” she jokingly captioned a behind-the-scenes video on Instagram, which showed her toddler crying and throwing a fit as the family tried to take a nice picture together and the dogs kept running off. And they didn’t even have a baby to deal with that year!

Over Thanksgiving, Dewan and Kazee decided to keep things casual. The professional dancer shared some casual selfies from home, writing, “Thanksgiving ‘24 🫶🏻 We have been going nonstop and really needed the day to fully relax (as much as one can with 3 kids ha), which looked like ordering chinese takeout and cuddling these little turkeys of ours.”

“Grateful for all the incredible blessings in my life 🤎,” she added. Spending time with family and being grateful for what we have is the true meaning of the holiday season anyway!
