Andrew East’s ‘Weird’ Dumbbell Workout Is Instantly Recognizable to Parents

Retired NFL player Andrew East might not be hitting the field anymore, but he knows it’s still just as important to hit the gym — especially as a dad of three. After all, East certainly has his hands full, chasing after his kids Drew, 5, Jett, 3, and baby Bear who he shares with his wife Shawn Johnson. And so he’s spending time in [what looks to be] his home gym doing a “weird” dumbbell exercise.

In the hilarious video he shared on Instagram, East bends down to pick up the bottom of the standing dumbbell with both hands. He then tips it into one arm and rests it between the crook of his elbow and his hip before doing the same on the other side.

“That’s a weird exercise, what’s that for?” East wrote over the video which then cut to footage of him picking up his nearly 1-year-old son Bear. (Somehow he turns 1 tomorrow?!?! Already?!?!)

Just like he did with the dumbbell, East picks up his youngest, places him in his elbow, and uses his hip for added support.

“gotta keep up,” East captioned the video.

Followers were cracking up, and parents knew how [painfully] true it was. Babies might look all cute and little, but they get heavy fast. That’s why one follower called East’s workout “functional training at its finest!”

“Lol I instantly knew,” one follower — who we have to assume is an experienced parent or caregiver — commented.

Other followers wondered if East’s video had a subtle message behind it. Was he training for another baby? “Does that mean number 4 is coming soon? 😊” “😳😳 I just knew this was going to be a baby announcement 🤦🏼‍♀️😂”

Thinking a workout video is a pregnancy announcement might be a bit of a *ahem* stretch, but who knows. In March, Johnson told People she “doesn’t know” if her family is finished growing. She’s “99.9 percent” sure she doesn’t want to be pregnant again, but that doesn’t mean Baby No. 4 is off the table.

“I would love to adopt if we want to continue growing our family,” the Olympian told the outlet. “I do feel like we are a family that would love to do that.”

We don’t want to speculate, but if the Johnson-East family is thinking of adopting a baby or toddler, East’s continued dumbbell workouts will certainly come in *ahem* handy.
