Jana Kramer Details Co-Parenting Struggles With Ex Mike Caussin: ‘I Don’t Have Time To Be Angry’

Jana Kramer got vulnerable about co-parenting her two kids with ex Mike Caussin — and it sounds like she’s doing her best to rise above any drama.

“It’s not an easy journey, but being angry does nothing for anybody,” the One Tree Hill alum told Us Weeklyrecently about her feelings toward her ex-husband. “It doesn’t do anything for me. I want everyone to get along, and at the end of the day, the kids are the most important things to all of us.”

The country singer shares daughter Jolie, 8, and son Jace, 5, with Caussin, who she was married to from 2015-2021. She is also mom to son Roman, 1, with husband Allan Russell. In the interview, she explained that she does her best to put her personal feelings aside to focus on her kids, which is exactly the right attitude.

“I don’t have to like him, but I would like for us all to be able to coparent well,” Kramer, continued. “Our relationship now is better than our marriage ever was. That’s because we’ve collectively been able to put the past in the past and really focus on the present and our kids.” She added, “I don’t have time to be angry. I don’t have time to stew. I could hate him, but for what? Like, why? That only does damage to the kids.”

And now, she enjoys life with her new husband, who also co-parents a teenage son with a past partner. The country singer said she feels so much respect from her spouse. “There’s so much trust and safety in that. I’ve never felt that before, which is nice,” she said, adding that her life with Russell is “beautiful and amazing.”

Last month, Caussin appeared as a guest with Kramer and Russell on her Whine Down With Jana Kramer podcast. The 72 Hours star shared that child support payments are “the only thing we really, truly fight about.” (Kramer has primary custody of the kids and was court-ordered to pay Caussin $3,200 a month for child support, per Us Weekly.)

Caussin agreed, calling it the “last remaining resent” after their divorce. “Jana hasn’t made up that I enjoy receiving [child support payments], especially with money being a thing in our marriage and our history and all this kind of stuff,” Caussin said. “You always kind of brought that up. The last thing I want is for you to think that I want that from you. So, finding my way post-divorce [and] finding my career where I can provide and do all of that stuff has taken some time.”

“I have my goal [that] by a certain time, I’m going to show up and have a paper from my lawyer signing over, like, ‘Hey, this is not your legal obligation anymore,’” Caussin told Kramer. “That’ll be the most freeing moment for me, like, ever in the history of Mike and Jana. So, no part of me enjoys [receiving the funds] at all. I hate it.”

It’s definitely complicated figuring out co-parenting situations, especially during the holidays, but Kramer has such a positive attitude going into the New Year. She’s definitely an inspiration!
