Rumer Willis Reveals She’s Going Through a ‘Really Intense Chapter’ as a Mother & Her Raw Words Are Resonating

If you haven’t heard from your mom friends lately, it might be a good time to check in. Rumer Willis just admitted she’s been away from social media due to a “really intense chapter” of motherhood, and it’s a good reminder that you never really know who is just hanging by a thread. (But based on the comments, a lot of moms are going through it right now, too.)

The Sorority Row star, who shares daughter Louetta “Lou” Isley, 19 months, with ex Derek Richard Thomas, revealed that she has been struggling lately as her and Lou have been under the weather.

“Been a little quiet on here cause I have been going through a really intense chapter of what feels like old and new grief, growth and transformation,” Willis wrote on Instagram, adding that she feels like her body is “forcing me to rest after pushing it too hard” and she’s trying to show herself “again and again I am so much more capable than I think as I take care of Lou while we are both sick.”

“I feel as if I am being called forth by the universe to truly let go and trust as challenges physically, emotionally and spiritually have come one after another,” Willis continued. “Sickness, betrayal, burn out, disappointment, broken trust, balancing work and motherhood, the mental load that comes with it all. All swirling together to create the arena for me to conquer.”

That’s a challenge for any mom, but especially for the My Divorce Party star who is navigating single motherhood after a split from Thomas earlier this year and supporting her dad Bruce Willis as he goes through frontotemporal dementia. Add all the mental load of motherhood and logistics of taking care of a sick baby while you’re also sick, and anyone would have a hard time!

In her lengthy caption, the eldest daughter of the Die Hard star and Demi Moore said seeing Lou sick “is one of the hardest things I’ve had to endure as a mother.” She added, “I’m so grateful for her trust in me and grateful to the other amazing woman that help support me in taking care of both of us.”

As she approaches 2025, Willis is hoping to “truly let go of things that have not been serving me.” “Ideas, patterns, thoughts, attachment cycles, people.”

“Filled with so much gratitude for this perfect magical being and my absolute soulmate little Lou who is a light and makes all of this wild chaos around us go silent with just a smile and knowing everything that I have right now is enough,” Willis added.

In the photo, Lou snuggles up with her mom in bed, sleeping in the crook of Willis’s arm. No matter how hard it is, you can tell Lou is finding her comfort and peace in her mom’s arms.

Many parents resonated with Willis’s raw words about motherhood. “Oh man motherhood absolutely shakes up that old grief! And new grief too. All of it. While also being so beautiful and so empowering. Sending love ❤️,” one person said.

“It’s crazy because I thought I was the only one going thru this, with a sick baby,” another wrote. “She’ll be one in 2 weeks and she so very sicky. I’m going thru it also and it’s lovely how we can literally do anything once our mind pushes thru it. Sending lots of love to all us mommies struggling but loving at the same time.”

Someone else commented, “Thank you for sharing. I sometimes think that I’m alone with these types of feelings. I’m glad there is a platform where we can support one another.”

Back in August, Willis confirmed that she’s a single mom, saying in an Instagram Q&A that her and Thomas were no longer together. “Nope I am single momming it and coparenting,” she wrote.

“I’m so grateful for Lou,” Willis continued. “She is the best thing in my life and I’m forever grateful I was able to have the time in that relationship for her to come into my life.”
