Kate Hudson Revealed How Her Family’s Tree Decorating Went & It’s Such a Mom Move

Christmas movies love to feature a montage of festive decorating moments, but in reality, decking the halls is a lot of work. Made even more difficult when the kids want to help out. It’s adorable — but they always tend to put the ornaments in the same cluster on the tree, make a mess out of lights and tinsel, then get bored halfway through and beg for a snack. And if you have older kids, forget it. It’s like pulling teeth trying to get them to help! We love the special memories, but sometimes it would be nice to fast-forward to everything being done, right? Kate Hudson got real about her family tree-decorating in a new post, and moms everywhere get it.

The Almost Famous star shared several pictures of herself decorating the tree while drinking a glass of white wine. In the caption, she explained: “Started as a family tradition, ended as a solo mission … with wine 🙃🎄” Hey, we have to get through it however we can! Who among us hasn’t had to bravely accept that this will be a one-mom job at some point? Exactly.

Hudson’s mom Goldie Hawn commented, “Hahahahahaha! 🍷🎄😂❤️.” Spoken like a mom who totally gets it! Her brother Oliver Hudson commented too, joking about not being invited to the decorating sesh. “I wasn’t involved with this in any way so I’m not sure what new family you’ve got going on.. I’m telling Mom,” he quipped, prompting Hudson to hilariously respond, “who is this…?”

Other moms commiserated with Hudson. “Me too!!!! Every year by the end I’m doing it alone!!! While everyone slinks away to play Xbox or take a nap,” one person said. Another wrote, “Hear you! Every year they hang fewer and fewer ornaments with me. This year I began calling ‘mom’s Christmas 🎄 tree.’”

The “Talk About Love” singer, who is mom to kids Ryder, 20, with ex Chris Robinson, Bingham, 12, with ex Matt Bellamy, and Rani, 5, with fiancé Danny Fujikawa, shared a video on TikTok of her tree trimming, explaining why she ended up all alone.

“The kids just decided that they were over it,” Hudson explains. “So I’m going to finish it. By myself.” Then she bursts into song, “It’s a lonely, lonely Christmas. Just me decorating here. Everywhere there’s usually children, but tonight it’s just me alone, sad and lonely mom.” Ah, yes, this is our new favorite holiday song because it’s just so relatable.

During the decorating sesh, she calls for Ryder to help with a particularly tall branch but gets no response. She continues to talk and sing to herself, finally daydreaming about the white wine she’s going to have once everything is said and done. She definitely deserves it!

“Am I okay?” she captioned the funny clip. One person commented, “I love how real this is 😭💕” Someone else wrote, “Oh my gosh, this is totally me. My son is 15 and would rather play video games then help me decorate for Christmas.”

This is just a reminder that all moms need a raise this Christmas season, because we are really carrying all that magic by ourselves! Santa, bring us more wine, please.
