Prince Louis Might Have Inherited His Infamous ‘Cheeky Streak’ From an Unexpected Royal Relative

Prince Louis is known for nothing if not his beyond-adorable (and totally hilarious!) public antics. From dancing on the balcony at Buckingham Palace during Trooping the Colour, to yawning his way through his grandfather’s historic coronation, the young prince has a cheeky streak that always makes us smile.

And it turns out that might not be only because he’s 6 years old and has more personality than can be contained in a stuffy and formal royal outing. And it might not be just because he’s relatively far down on the line of succession and given a longer leash than his big siblings Prince George, 11 and Princess Charlotte, 9.

No, royal reporter Jasmine Carey seems to believe the traits could have been inherited from an unexpected royal relative. Perhaps Prince William’s cousin Earl James of Wessex (AKA Prince Louis’ cousin once removed) is the source.

James, who just turned 17, is the son of King Charles III’s brother Prince Edward, and he had a notable cheeky streak. In 2013, he was seen making binoculars out of his hands while standing on the balcony at Buckingham Palace during Trooping the Colour alongside the late Queen Elizabeth II.

What a silly kid! He now has a more serious and subdued temperament and — if his last outing was any indication — the same might be true for the young Prince of Wales. During the “Together At Christmas” Carol Service at Westminster Abbey, there were no silly antics to be seen, and we certainly hope that wasn’t signaling the end of an adorably goofy era.

Prince Louis will see James on Christmas Day when the royal family gathers at Sandringham, and perhaps their reunion will reignite that silly spark in the younger royal.

Last week, Prince William made rare comments about Christmas at Sandringham that made us think his youngest son would be front and center.

“It won’t be quiet, it will be noisy,” the Prince of Wales said while meeting with members of the British armed forces and their families, per People.

Noisy? Is that because there will be 45 people in attendance (!!!) or because Prince Louis will be showing off his latest hobby? Earlier this month, Prince William told Rolling Stones star Ronnie Wood and Dire Straits guitarist Mark Knopfler that his “youngest is learning the drums.”

“That’s why I spend my entire life with my fingers in my ears,” the future monarch joked.

So who knows, perhaps Prince Louis will take out his drumsticks and put on a show. Or teach his cousin James a thing or two. After all, the inspiration can go both ways!
