Pregnant mamas in nesting mode might be focused on organizing the nursery or catching up on laundry, but don’t forget to take care of yourself too. The postpartum time is a blur as you focus on recovery from childbirth, but Katherine Schwarzenegger has the perfect mom hack to help. The mom of three shared a step-by-step guide to one of her postpartum essentials, and you’ll want to bookmark this guide for the next time you’ll need it.
Schwarzenegger, who welcomed baby Ford with husband Chris Pratt last month and is also mom to daughters Lyla Maria, 4, and Eloise Christina, 2, revealed that she made her own “padsicles” to prepare for postpartum recovery.
“Postpartum healing recovery pads aka padsicles,” the Good Night, Sister author wrote over a video on Instagram, adding in the caption, “Made these before baby arrived, and I’m so happy I did 🧊🫶”
“Padsicles = instant relief for those early days,” she continued. “I’ve made the same ones for all three postpartum journeys and for some friends and they always get great reviews!”
Schwarzenegger was still pregnant with Ford when she made the video, and she demonstrated how to make these products, which require a Ziploc bag, unscented maternity pads, witch hazel, and aloe vera. She sets several pads in a row on a paper towel, soaking them with witch hazel and adding aloe vera gel to the top of each one. (You can also add a few drops of lavender oil if you want.) From there, fold them in half, put them in the bag, and then freeze until you’re ready.
“Your future self will thank you—promise. ✨” she added in the caption.
Many moms praised this easy and helpful idea. “Yes! I used these too and they were so helpful! ❤️ Also, congratulations!” one person commented. Someone else wrote, “You should seriously sell these! I know you don’t need the money, but postpartum women would love this! Alternatively we’re going through a regimen that the hospital told us and it has 7 steps just to pee. When you can’t even find bandwidth to shower something easy like this would be such a kindness. 💛”
“I remember after I had my first (he was the only 1 I had vaginally), the nurse gave me this cooling spray for down there!” someone else wrote. “It was wonderful! I could’ve used it all day long! This is a really great idea!❤️”
The BDA: Baby podcast host and Pratt welcomed their son on Nov. 8, announcing with a joint Instagram post. “We are overjoyed to announce the birth of our son, Ford Fitzgerald Schwarzenegger Pratt,” they wrote. “Mama and baby are doing well and Ford’s siblings are thrilled by his arrival. We feel so blessed and grateful.”
Almost a month later, Schwarzenegger shared the first glimpse of Ford in a November roundup. You could just see a glimpse of Ford’s feet, which were clad in fuzzy white socks. He was also wearing cute white pants with a lace detailing on the hem, reminiscent of his older sister’s vintage-inspired aesthetic.
She seems to be doing great now that she’s catching up on posting old videos she made! If you are having a baby soon, make your own padsicles using Schwarzenegger’s instructions above and shop these other postpartum essentials HERE.
