Patrick Mahomes’ Creative Christmas Photos Could Have Everything To Do with Last Year’s Mishap

The First Family of Football shared a new collection of Christmas photos that made our jaws drop for multiple reasons. Sure, the strategy is a bit creepy … but it’s also majorly brilliant. And, given the family’s track record — and the general consensus of toddlers everywhere — we’re taking notes.

Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Mahomes shared a joint post on Instagram with festive family photos. In the opening shot, they sit in front of a tree, surrounded by presents, with their kids Sterling Mahomes, 3 and Bronze Mahomes, 2 sitting on their laps. The kiddos hold presents and books and look generally OK with having their picture taken.

Then comes the sneaky part: In the second half of the carousel of photos, Santa is behind the family of four (soon-to-be five!) with a finger to his lips in a shushing gesture. And yes, I admit it was a jump scare for me, but it’s also pretty genius. Santa was doing what Santa does best — sneaking around — and the kids were none the wiser.

The creative photoshoot could have been the high school sweethearts’ new strategy given their family’s infamous photos with Santa last year. In the pictures, the Mahomes children sit alongside Santa and look less-than-pleased. It’s a fact that followers found hilarious and “priceless” — “I love the kids’ matching pouty faces 😂” — but Brittany and Patrick were probably hoping for a little more Christmas cheer.

This time around, they got a little more of a smile out of each kiddo, and followers were just as supportive. “Love realistic family photos. If the kids aren’t about it…it is what it is. Too cute!” one person said.

“As a mom I just know the kids did not like Santa and this was the best way to get a photo lol. Very cute been there,” another added.

It really is a great parenting hack. Instead of having kids who are terrified of Saint Nick sit near him or on his lap, have them sit on your lap and kindly ask Santa to pose behind you while the kids are distracted. It’s a win-win! Parents get the shot with the jolly ol’ fellow, and the little ones don’t have to be scared of this stranger who they might love in theory but fear IRL.

Photos aside, the Mahomes family had a very Merry Christmas — even if Patrick was away for most of the day. The NFL quarterback was busy leading the Kansas City Chiefs to victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“I told my wife — my pregnant wife — I was gonna get her the No. 1 seed so we can go have that baby,” he said in a post-game interview. “We got the 1 seed.”

Securing the top seed in his conference means the Chiefs are guaranteed the home-field advantage during the playoffs, keeping Patrick nearby for “Baby Girl’s” arrival.

Brittany proudly shared her husband’s quote in an Instagram Story, writing, “Always keeping his promises” with a teary-eyed smiling emoji and a heart.

These celebrity moms all appeared in the ‘Sports Illustrated Swimsuit’ Issue after welcoming babies.
