Kylie Kelce is doing what an astounding number of Am I The A—hole (AITA?) posts on Reddit have warned us not to do: She’s listening to other people’s baby name advice. The soon-to-be mom of four is actually acknowledging the suggestions of followers and loved ones while she and Jason Kelce try to find the perfect name for their fourth daughter.
Granted, she’s not necessarily accepting said suggestions. In fact, she’s now telling fans exactly why those names won’t work. But even entertaining baby names from someone else is brave, given all the drama that can come from including more than just the parents in this discussion.
And so the podcast host is now giving fans some more guidance — and explaining why their picks won’t work.
ICYMI: The Kelces share daughters Wyatt, 5, Elliotte, 3, and Bennett, 1. Noticing a trend? Each of their girls has a name with two Ts, and so people are [understandably] trying to follow that precedent by suggesting monikers that follow suit.
But Kylie has one major stipulation: The name has to come with a good nickname — even if that means breaking the two-T tradition.
“I know a lot of great Garys but I cannot name my daughter Garrett knowing that her nickname would be Gary,” she said during an episode of her podcast, Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce.
As for the name Merritt, which people commonly suggest, Kylie likes Christmas but said she doesn’t need to feel Merry year-round.
“There’s a good chance that this child doesn’t even get two Ts,” Kylie said. “I know. People are very invested in this, but I just feel like a curveball might be fun.”
And then there are just the logistics of it all: “We’ve run out, I think. Just prepare yourselves. If we don’t have two Ts, it’s OK and she’s still one of us.”
As for the other Kelce trend, they’re definitely sticking to that. Beyond the two Ts, the Kelces are known for giving their daughters gender-neutral names that traditionally lean masculine.
“So if we do a full commit to a girly name at this point, it would not sit well with the other three, I think?” Kylie said earlier this month. “Eventually they’ll be like, ‘Why did they get a cute girly name?’”
So Jason and Kylie are sticking with a gender-neutral name, but given that they’ve already used so many beautiful names with two Ts that have adorable nicknames (Wy, Bennie, and Ellie), the two-T tradition just might have to go by the wayside.
From Kamai to Arys, here’s a list of gender-neutral baby names that are super rare.
