Ah, motherhood. It’s full of beautiful moments bursting with love … and disgusting moments that’ll make you want to puke (or cry). These little bundles of joy don’t know how much sh-t we have to deal with — literally! Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger are keeping it refreshingly real, though. A new photo shows the gross moment their baby Ford, 2 months, had a diaper blowout on his mom, and it’s the antidote to those Instagram-perfect moments that give us baby fever.
“Shit happens,” the Guardians of the Galaxy star wrote on Instagram. He shared a picture of his wife sitting on a cozy chair in their home, smiling at baby Ford. Ford’s back is to the camera, and you can see a huge mustard-yellow stain leaking out the top of his diaper and slowly spreading across his back through his outfit.
As a mom of three, I remember these moments all too well with my kids. They’re just lucky it happened at church and not, say, the pumpkin patch or the middle of Target!
Dad of two Drew Scott commented, “That’s true love❤️.” True! We wouldn’t put in all this effort if we didn’t love our babies. Zoe Saldana commented, “😂😂😂”
“We call that a ‘SH*Tuation’ in my house,” someone else wrote. (And now we are only going to refer to these blowouts as that!)
Others put it in perspective. “Omg! I remember those days … and 11 years later, I wish they were that size again. 🥹” one person commented. It’s probably true, although, not exactly helpful when you’re deep in the poo-cleaning phase of parenthood!
Schwarzenegger and Pratt are also parents to daughters Lyla Maria, 4, and Eloise Christina, 2. (Pratt also shares son Jack, 12, with ex Anna Farris.) Last month, the Before, During, and After Baby podcast host shared the sweetest pictures of her kids, writing that they were “soaking up the last few days of December 🤍.”
In the pictures, Ford cozied up with his mom in a snuggly photo, showing off his full head of dark hair. One person commented, “I know the baby phase is rough. But that picture speaks, and what it says is love. :)” It’s so true, and such a good reminder!
Despite her seemingly nonchalant reaction to Ford pooping on her lap, Schwarzenegger is actually a pretty strict mom. In an interview with TODAY in April, her mom Maria Shriver revealed, “My daughter has more of a schedule than I ever had, so I’m adhering to her. She runs a tighter ship than I did.”
“We always made sure we were home for naptime and for bedtime on time, and my mom was very thrown off by the emphasis I put on that because that was not something she did with us growing up,” Schwarzenegger added. “It was kind of: you nap where you nap, maybe you don’t nap, maybe you go to bed at 6, maybe you go to bed at 8. She was very relaxed about all that.”
You just gotta pick your battles, right? And sometimes that means embracing the messier parts of parenthood!
