Tony Hawk is a proud grandpa, and yes, he’s already been thinking about getting his newborn grandson on a skateboard; but only on one condition.
In case you missed it, Tony became a grandpa for the first time when his son Riley Hawk and his wife, Kurt Cobain’s daughter Frances Bean Cobain, welcomed a son named Ronin Walker in Sept 2024. And while he’s already nailed the grandpa jokes, he’s already thinking about how his grandson can be a lil skateboarder.
While speaking with People on his continued partnership with Qunol for Heart Health Month in February, he spoke about being a grandpa, and how he’s itching to pass his love for skateboarding to Ronin.
“Let’s say I brought him on a skateboard while sitting down on it,” he said, noting that he has a rule for skateboarding with his newborn right now, thanks to his wife Catherine Goodman. “She said, ‘You can’t stand up. That’s the only rule.’ Because I have to leave that for my son to do with him first.”
And if you’re wondering what kind of grandpa he is, he said he’s a “fun” grandpa, “I’m extra protective of him. Absolutely…[I’m a grandpa] that will definitely spoil him and one that is willing to drop everything to get some time with him at any turn.”
Awww! Our hearts! We love Grandpa Hawk details!
For those who don’t know, Frances and Tony’s son Riley have been together since 2021. While they’ve kept their romance quite private, we do know they tied the knot on Oct 7, 2023 and that her godfather, R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe, officiated, per Page Six.
On Sept 28, 2024, Frances shared a series of snapshots that shocked everybody: she and Riley are parents now! She shared the photos of their newborn son to her Instagram with the caption reading, “9.17.2024/ Ronin Walker Cobain Hawk 🩵 ✨ Welcome to the world most beautiful son. We love you more than anything ✨.”
