If you’re like us, you might have been too distracted by the unbelievably kind gesture in Meghan Markle‘s latest video to notice her subtle shoutout to her kids. The Duchess of Sussex posted a video on Instagram to share the story of how she met a 15-year-old girl impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires. The teen’s home tragically burned to the ground, and she was so sad that she lost a T-shirt from the recent Billie Eilish concert she attended.
“I said, ‘I don’t know Billie Eilish, but I’m going to figure out how to get you this shirt,'” Markle explained in the selfie video.
And so she made a voice note about the situation and sent it to everyone she knew, asking if they could get it to Eilish. Well, the message made its way to the Grammy winner — seemingly via Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo — and she sent a care package filled with signed merch.
“Huge thank you Billie Eilish, this is going to mean so much to her … to everyone who is showing up for people in big and small ways to get through what’s happened in California, just thank you so much.”
How sweet is that? The late Mr. Rogers would love this example of looking to the helpers when scary things happen. We can’t even begin to imagine how much Markle’s kindness and Eilish’s generosity will mean to this 15-year-old whose whole world was turned upside down.
“Let’s keep supporting those affected by the California wildfires,” Markle wrote in her caption. “Thanks to everyone who made this possible but most importantly, thank you to our first responders who are the community’s real heroes.”
So where do the royal kiddos come in? Did you also get swept up in the loveliness of that story and forget that there was a special nod to Markle and Prince Harry’s kids Prince Archie, 5 and Princess Lilibet, 3?
In the video, Markle is wearing a custom Club Chainstitch sweatshirt that has “Archie & Lili” embroidered in cursive along the collar. The white writing popped on the black top, and the simple yet oh-so-sweet gesture proves that the Duchess’ kids are always on her mind and close to her heart. Literally.
Though mentions of Archie and Lilibet may be common in Markle’s closet, it’s quite uncommon to see the young royals. The Sussexes rarely release photos of their kids and do their best to keep the photographers at bay. In December, the family released their annual holiday card, and we couldn’t believe how much they’ve grown. Now we want to know if we’ll see a video of the Big Kids wearing sweatshirts that say Meg & Haz (or perhaps Mommy & Daddy) on the collar.
