Selma Blair is keeping it real about raising her teenage son Arthur. The Cruel Intentions star opened up about the “main issue” she has with raising her 13-year-old son as a single mom, and moms everywhere feel her pain!
Blair appeared on TODAY on Thursday morning to raise awareness about multiple sclerosis and chat about motherhood. In the appearance, Blair revealed that her extreme tiredness is the hardest part about raising her son by herself. (We feel that!)
“I think since I had him, I’d been afflicted with MS, and I didn’t know [because] I was diagnosed later,” the Legally Blonde actress, who revealed her diagnosis in 2018, said. “My fatigue was always the main issue and as any parent knows, especially a single parent, there’s no room for extra fatigue.”
She said she felt like she was “always finding and connecting with other people” about dealing with the tiredness that came from parenting on her own while dealing with a chronic illness. “’How do you do this?’ I had to ask advice for everything,” Blair recalled. It’s so tough, but it’s great that she’s leaned on her community to help. It definitely takes a village.
Blair added that she’s now “in a good spot” since her son is older and “doesn’t want to be with me as much.” Aww! Just when you start getting enough rest and sleep, you start to miss those needy toddler and kid years, don’t you? Poor mama!
Luckily, her 13-year-old still does spend some time with his mama, and recently went to Paris for Fashion Week with his mom in September.
“I love you my darling boy,” Blair captioned a sweet selfie at the time. “My devilish Saint. Your first time in Paris should always be with someone who loves you the most. So here we are. I’m so grateful. I couldn’t be happier. Goodnight. Sweet dreams.”
In an interview with PEOPLE in September, Blair gave another update about her son, joking, “[The] teenage years have happened. I’m a grandma.” She added, “No, he’s 13 and you would think he’s 17. And he is the child that I will have to learn to keep a closer eye on. Because I love him very much.”
These celebrity parents are sharing the struggle — and sweetness — of raising teenagers.
