Naya Rivera’s Ex Ryan Dorsey Reveals How Son Is ‘Definitely His Mama’s Son’ in First-Ever Interview After Her Death

It’s been nearly five years since Glee alum Naya Rivera drowned at Lake Piru in Calif. She was only 33 years old. However, she and her ex-husband Ryan Dorsey’s son Josey lives on, and according to his dad, he’s so much like his mother.

In the first-ever interview after Rivera’s passing, Dorsey talked to People about Josey’s personality.

“He’s definitely his mama’s son, because when he doesn’t get the answer he wants, he keeps talking. He likes to talk, and that’s mama for sure,” he said. “He doesn’t know a stranger. He is such a happy kid.”

It’s truly amazing how happy he is, especially since it’s well known that he was with his mother when she passed away. Because of this, Dorsey revealed that he treats Josey a bit differently.

“I treat him differently than I would a normal kid because of what he’s been through,” Dorsey said. “For me, it’s not a big deal if he hears a bad word or if he sees someone get killed on TV. I don’t know if that’s a bad way to go about raising him, but it is the cards we were dealt.”

For those who don’t know, Rivera and Dorsey briefly dated around 2009 and 2010. They got back together in 2014, marrying that same year. In 2016, she filed for divorce, but later withdrew it. Dorsey filed for divorce in late 2017, and by 2018, they broke up.

However, during their relationship, they welcomed a son named Josey Hollis, born in Sept 2015.

As we said, Rivera passed away suddenly when she drowned at Lake Piru in Calif, and tragically, Josey was there.

“Something he’s said over and over is that he was trying to find a life raft, and there was a rope, but there was a big spider on the rope, and he was too scared to throw it,” Dorsey said to People. “I keep reassuring him, ‘Buddy, that rope wasn’t going to be long enough.'”

He added, “He said that the last thing she said was his name, and then she went under, and he didn’t see her anymore. It just rocks my world that he had to witness her last moments.”
