Ayesha Curry Gets Real About the 6-Year Age Gap Between Her Youngest Kids

If you’ve been on the fence about having another baby due to the large age gap they would have, let this be your sign to go for it. With four children, Ayesha Curry has experienced both sides — kids three years apart and kids six years apart — and she just shared the most encouraging message about a big age gap.

Ayesha and her NBA star husband Steph Curry are parents to daughters Riley, 12, Ryan, 9, Canon, 6, and Caius, 9 months. In a recent interview with PEOPLE, she reflected on how her older kids are doing since their baby brother was born in May.

“The older kids, they’re amazing. We were worried about having the six-year gap between our son and Cai Cai, and it’s been magical,” the Irish Wish star said. “He truly feels like a big brother. He only wants to protect him. There’s no jealousy. I love it.”

One of the biggest worries about bringing a new baby home is how your other kids will feel about it, so that fact that Canon loves his little brother so far is truly special.

And it’s not just Canon. Riley and Ryan are also in love with their baby brother. “The girls are like little moms,” Ayesha said about their loving and protective relationship with Caius. “It’s the best decision we’ve ever made, honestly,” she added.

The chef and businesswoman also shared one of her and Stephen’s parenting philosophies: to put their relationship with each other first. “I think for us, our relationship always comes first,” Ayesha said. “Then we’re parents.”

“And that works for us because then you have two happy people raising the kids in the house,” she continued. “So the family sector in our lives always comes first.”

In an interview with SheKnows in September, Ayesha said their family has changed “quite a bit” since welcoming baby Caius. “It’s such a thin line between those precious childhood and teen years,” she told us. “Navigating has been wild, but things are going great so far.”

“We’re lucky — all the kids have embraced the new baby and my girls, being a little older, have even been helping me around the house,” she went on.
