Sarah Michelle Gellar Shares Rare Photo of Her Daughter Charlotte as a Baby in a Heart-Wrenching Tribute to Her TV ‘Sister’ Michelle Trachtenberg

Sarah Michelle Gellar is remembering her friend and TV “sister” Michelle Trachtenberg after the actress’s tragic death at age 39 on Feb. 26. Gellar posted a moving tribute to her Buffy the Vampire Slayer co-star on Instagram, including a sweet throwback photo of Trachtenberg with Gellar’s daughter Charlotte, now 15, as a baby. Grab the tissues — this one is emotional!

“Michelle, listen to me. Listen. I love you. I will always love you,” Gellar, who shares Charlotte and son Rocky, 12, with husband Freddie Prinze Jr. wrote on Instagram.

“The hardest thing in this world, is to live in it,” she continued. “I will be brave. I will live … for you 💔💔💔🗝️” Buffy fans recognize this line as one that Buffy (played by Gellar) said to her little sister Dawn (played by Trachtenberg) in the season 5 finale, when Buffy sacrificed herself to save her sister.

Gellar shared several photos of her and the Ice Princess star throughout the years, including an absolutely precious picture of Trachtenberg holding Charlotte. The baby is still a newborn, and is looking off in the distance with big, beautiful eyes. Trachtenberg has the biggest open-mouthed grin on her face as she gazes adoringly at the baby in the tender moment. It just goes to show how their friendship truly went past just co-workers and into friends.

Reese Witherspoon commented on the post, “Oh friend … I’m so sorry. This is just heartbreaking 💔.”

“I’m so sorry 💔💔💔,”  Jessica Alba wrote.

“Sending you so much love! I am so sorry!” 7th Heaven alum Beverley Mitchell commented. Christina Ricci wrote, “I’m so sorry. Sending so much love ❤️ she was the sweetest, loveliest human.”

The Gossip Girl alum was found “unconscious and unresponsive” in her New York City apartment on Wednesday, the New York Police Department confirmed to Entertainment Weekly. An investigation into her death is ongoing, but no criminal activity is suspected, per the police.

In a statement to the outlet, Trachtenberg’s representative said, “It is with great sadness to confirm that Michelle Trachtenberg has passed away. The family requests privacy for their loss. There are no further details at this time.”

Many other celebrities and co-workers of Trachtenberg’s have written tributes after the actress’s death, including her Gossip Girl co-star Blake Lively. She shared a picture of the duo on set of the teen drama series on her Instagram story, per PEOPLE.

“This was the first day I met Michelle,” she wrote in the caption. “She was electricity. You knew when she entered a room because the vibration changed. Everything she did, she did 200%. She laughed the fullest at someone’s joke, she faced authority head on when she felt something was wrong, she cared deeply about her work, she was proud to be a part of this community and industry as painful as it could be sometimes, she was fiercely loyal to her friends and brave for those she loved, she was big and bold and distinctly herself.”
