People Are Calling Out Russell Brand’s ‘Sexist’ Parenting Style

Some people are branding Russell Brand a crappy dad lately. Apparently, Brand leaves most of childcare — and all of diaper duty — to his wife, Laura Gallacher.

“Laura does all of it,” Brand told the Sunday Times in an interview published on Sunday. “It turns out that she is extremely well-versed in the nuances and complexities of child-rearing. Me, I am dedicated to it, devoted to it, but I am still surprised when it’s like, ‘Oh my God, this is f—king really hard and it’s so exhausting.”

The father of daughters, Mabel, 2, and Peggy, 6 months, revealed that Gallacher has never left him alone with the girls for a 24-hour period. “She respects and cares for their safety too much,” Brand explained. “Yes, I’m very, very focused on the mystical connotations of Mabel’s beauty and grace. Not so good on the nappies and making sure that they eat food.”

While Gallacher wakes up with the children, Brand begins his morning with meditation and prayer. “I go for a run with the dog around fields,” he said. “I do some writing, some recovery-related stuff. I do Brazilian jiu-jitsu quite a lot. I go to the gym.” Later, Brand praised Gallacher for her ability to “sustain and contain domesticity in a way that’s astonishing.”

Not surprisingly, Brand’s comments sparked backlash on Twitter. “Laura is better at it because she has no choice. Someone has to step up and take responsibility for keeping your child alive and nurturing them into a well-rounded, clean and fed human being!” wrote one person.

Added another: “Turns out Russell Brand is just a big old fashioned sexist.”

Many critics tweeted that Gallacher has three children on her hands.

While speaking with the British paper, Brand also reflected on his past sex addiction and vowed that he will always remain loyal to lifestyle blogger Gallacher, who he married in 2017.

“Nothing good could come from harming her,” he mused. ”When I think, ‘Oh, that person is attractive, the next thought is, ‘Yes, but if you ever did anything, you realize that would destroy your whole life.’ There’s that voice in my head now.”
