Long gone are the days when pregnant women had to hide themselves from the public eye as their due date approached. But even as maternity wear continues to improve, office clothing has remained a bit behind the times, especially if you need business-professional clothes. Enter (naturally) J.Crew, a brand with office attire that already so often can be adapted from “board meeting at 11 a.m.” to “brunch at 11 a.m. on Saturday.” And now, the retailer has teamed up with maternity icon Hatch to create a collection of bump-friendly pieces that capture both stores’ polished, feminine aesthetic. The collection is currently for sale on both the J.Crew and Hatch websites.
The collection takes many J.Crew classics, such as suits and pencil skirts, and adds details like stretch and added length, as well as sometimes taking things away, ie removing some seams in the resume shift dress. As with Hatch’s own line, all these pieces are designed for “before, during, and after” baby and many include details that make breastfeeding easier too. Sizes run XS-XL; prices start at $59.50 for a T-shirt and go up to $298 for a trench.
As fans of the Duchess of Sussex have already surely noticed, the collaboration also brings together two of Meghan Markle‘s favorite brands. She was spotted wearing Hatch while pregnant and has been seen in some of J.Crew’s @work pieces before as well, as People pointed out (many of the new Hatch x J.Crew pieces are adapted from that @work collection). This latest collection may have come too late for Meghan and baby Archie, but it’s certainly a boon for pregnant women who might want to steal some of the Duchess’s classic maternity style.
And while all these fashionable pregnant women, famous and not, are benefiting from stores like J.Crew expanding their options, just as many of them are opting out of maternity clothes altogether in favor of regular-old on-trend outfits that can, when necessary, accommodate a bump. Which, you know, is a fantastic option — and one that might make the price tag on these Hatch x J.Crew pieces a bit hard to swallow. At the same time, however, women who plan to work well into their third trimester will likely be pretty happy to see a blazer and suit pants that are trendy and bump-friendly at the same time.
