Miley Cyrus, intentionally or not, has made something crystal-clear about parenting: We have a generational technology divide on our hands. Yesterday, the pop star took to IG Stories to tell followers how her mom reacted when she was on her phone “serving content” while they were on vacation together.
“My mom called this ‘disgusting’ there was a gorgeous sunset and I was inside on my phone ‘serving content.’ It’s hard to get in trouble once you’re an adult but she said I looked like a ‘bratty millennial’ which I do… but is it bad if I like the pic and wanna post? Is that the worst? @tishcyrus,” Cyrus wrote on a picture taken by her mom.
Obviously, many kids and parents can relate to this struggle. Have you ever called out your kids for being on their phones? Sub-question: Have you been called out for being on your phone? Maybe there have been too many times to even count?
IMHO, maybe Miley would have benefited from spending more quality time with that gorgeous sunset, but ultimately, as an adult, she should be able to make her own decisions. Still, momma Tish definitely has a point: How much of life are we missing by being too focused on documenting it? (Besides, no matter how old you get, your mom is still your mom and will probably always feel like she has the authority to tell you like it is.)

Even with this little snafu, Cyrus has expressed how much she needed this trip to Arizona with her mom, sister, and dog. After being in the limelight for the last month over her divorce from Liam Hemsworth (amidst rumors that he’s dating Kaitlynn Carter), the very “content” she’s been “serving up” may be part of her healing process — and that of the many others who look to her for inspiration.
“Goodbyes are never easy… [black heart emoji] but g2g,” she captioned her most recent post. We’re just happy she’s taking a break among her loved ones (and loved pups).
