As Chrissy Teigen and John Legend realized that she was losing her pregnancy earlier this year, Legend didn’t at first understand why she wanted to take photos in the hospital, as she revealed in her essay about the experience last month. Now, however, it seems that Legend has realized the extent to which sharing their grief helped them and others who have gone through miscarriage, stillbirth, and infant loss.
“We’ve heard from so many people who have gone through it too, and it’s been encouraging to be getting so much love and support from so many people who have experienced similar things,” Legend told Entertainment Tonight.
“Chrissy sharing what she shared has also been helpful for other people who are going through it and may go through it in the future.”

This was evident almost immediately after Teigen posted the devastating photos from the hospital — many who had suffered miscarriages came forward to speak of their own losses that they’d kept to themselves until then.
“I lived it, I chose to do it, and more than anything, these photos aren’t for anyone but the people who have lived this or are curious enough to wonder what something like this is like,” Teigen wrote in her essay on Medium. “These photos are only for the people who need them. The thoughts of others do not matter to me.”
It was also so moving to see Legend speak about his loss on live television at the Billboard Music Awards. He also got a tattoo of Jack’s name to match Teigen’s.

What’s also been meaningful for many is seeing the way Teigen, Legend, and even daughter Luna, are able to keep Jack in their hearts while returning back to their normal lives. (We assume Miles is a little too young to grasp all of this.) Legend told ET that he thinks it’s important to celebrate the good in life after tragedy.
“Whenever we go through personal challenges — and I think challenges as a nation — I think we have to hold on to what makes us optimistic,” he said. “What makes us hopeful, hold onto the things that bring us joy. And in my family, as we’ve gone through a tough year, we hold onto the fact that we have two beautiful kids that we love and are such a beautiful reflection of who we are and what we value.”
