It’s no secret that Sarah Michelle Gellar and her husband Freddie Prinze Jr. are a fan of all things spooky. After all, they did star in the spooky I Know What You Did Last Summer and Scooby-Doo, not to mention Gellar slayed vampires for years as Buffy. So when the Hollywood it couple’s son Rocky wanted to have a scary 11th birthday party, they went all in!
“So in a break from all the heartbreak in the world… this weekend we finally celebrated our sons 11 birthday,” the Buffy The Vampire Slayer star wrote on Instagram. “All he wanted was to go @knottsberryfarm for @knottsscaryfarm … consider your wish granted.”
But Knott’s Scary Farm wasn’t the scariest thing they did. Gellar, who also shares 14-year-old daughter Charlotte with Prinze, revealed that they took seven 11-year-olds, four teenage girls, and one “very brave” 8-year-old to the amusement park. Talk about terrifying! She is definitely braver than us going to an amusement park with that many kids.
Gellar also had a PSA for moms: “Also moms… don’t wear a white tank top and do water rides,” she shared as a way to explain her see-through shirt at the end. It’s OK, it happens!
The post included several photos from the experience, which had giant jack ‘o lanterns, scary characters, and fun rides. There was even a rare snap of her son Rocky, who was walking hand-in-hand with his friends at the farm.
In a new interview with Us Weekly, Gellar shared that her son has been obsessed with scary movies recently, while her daughter “suddenly loves everything horror.”
Even her house seems to be a fan of the genre. “Houses, they have noises all on their own,” she told PEOPLE. “I think I hear my kids walking in the hallways at night, and I’ll go out to go catch them and see which one of them it is, but there’s never anyone there.” Gellar added, “It’s the house settling.” Or is it…?
While they get ready for Halloween, there is one family member who isn’t exactly thrilled for the holiday: their dog! “We have to be careful because my little dog does not like skeletons,” she told the outlet. “A couple of houses away from us has this seven-foot skeleton, and yeah, he can’t walk by it. So we have to be cautious in what we choose, but he’s fine with spiders.”
The way the Gellar/Prinze family embraces their horror side while taking everyone’s fears into consideration is truly an inspiration.
