Justin Timberlake is not interested in discussing the past. After Britney Spears revealed that she had an abortion with Timberlake’s baby back in 2000, insiders revealed that the “Cry Me a River” singer is “focusing” on his family.
“Justin has been focusing on his own family and trying not to concern himself with Britney’s memoir,” a source told Entertainment Tonight. As a reminder, Timberlake is married to Jessica Biel and they share sons Silas, 8, and Phineas, 2.
“In recent years, Justin has tried to be supportive of Britney from a distance,” the insider continued. “They dated so long ago, but he still has respect for her. Justin and Jessica just want everyone to grow and evolve instead of continuing to bring up the past.”
Spears and Timberlake dated from 1999 to 2002. In an excerpt from Spears’ upcoming memoir, The Woman in Me, which releases Oct. 24, the “Oops, I Did It Again” singer revealed that becoming pregnant “was a surprise” but not a “tragedy” for her.
“I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day,” she wrote in an excerpt shared by PEOPLE. But the former NSYNC member “definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young.”
“I don’t know if that was the right decision,” she wrote. “If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father.”
Spears is mom to sons Sean Preston, 18, and Jayden James, 17, with ex-husband Kevin Federline. In May 2022, she announced that she had a miscarriage with then fiancé Sam Asghari. The two got married a month later and announced their split Aug. 2023.
Timberlake has made several moves in the past to show support for Spears and regret for his past actions. When she was in the midst of a court battle to end her 13-year conservatorship, Timberlake said, “Jess and I send our love, and our absolute support to Britney during this time. We hope the courts, and her family make this right and let her live however she wants to live.”
He added, “No one should EVER be held against their will … or ever have to ask permission to access everything they’ve worked so hard for.”
He’s also apologized to Spears and Janet Jackson for the way he took advantage of them to advance his own career. “I understand that I fell short in these moments and in many others and benefited from a system that condones misogyny and racism,” Timberlake wrote in part. “I specifically want to apologize to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson both individually because I care for and respect these women and I know I failed.”
Although the “Mirrors” singer has not released an official statement on the abortion bombshell, insiders revealed to Us Weeklythat he is “concerned” about Spears’ memoir. “Justin’s not going to be happy,” one source said, claiming that the book “goes after him hard.”
Another insider shared that “it’s not Britney’s intention to skewer anyone,” and that she is trying “to relay the facts from her perspective.”
