If you think life with a toddler is wild, imagine raising your child at the actual zoo. That’s exactly what Bindi Irwin and husband Chandler Powell do with their 2-year-old daughter Grace Warrior. The Australia Zoo conservationists are in a new video with the rest of the Irwin family playing with wildlife, and it’s such a cool reminder of their unique home.
Terri Irwin shared a video to Instagram of her kids Bindi, 25, and Robert Irwin, 20; Powell, and her granddaughter all interacting with animals at the zoo. Grace appears toward the end of the video. The whole family (dressed in matching khaki!) are standing next to each other while Robert holds a koala. Bindi holds Grace, who is fearlessly reaching over to pet the animal. It’s no different than a pet cat or dog to this little one!
Other highlights of the sweet video include Terri feeding a kangaroo with her hands, Robert holding a baby kangaroo, Bindi and Robert playing with ring-tailed lemurs, and Bindi letting a snake slither over her head. It’s just a normal Wednesday for the Irwins!
“My heart beats for my wonderful family and my beautiful home. I am truly blessed. ❤️” Terri captioned the heartwarming video.
“You’ve done an amazing job as a mother, wife, wildlife warrior, and trailblazer. The world is a better place because of you and your lovely family. ❤️” one person sweetly commented.
“You are all so beautiful on the inside, and out!!! As your family continues to grow. The incredible love that’s shown amongst each other, is not only a good example for us all, but it’s priceless!!! 💯♥️” another person wrote.
Bindi opened up about her unique home life in an interview with SheKnowsin September. “We were kind of this wild family,” Bindi said with a laugh. “I grew up within Australia Zoo, so my home and my backyard is a sanctuary filled with wildlife. Growing up, we traveled a lot for our conservation work as well, and no matter where we were or what we were doing, we would always have playtime together as a family.”
She explained that she was “pretty much never indoors.” Bindi explained, “I was always running around in the creek or running around with animals or climbing a tree. Honestly, looking back, I now really revel in the fact that I was so lucky to be able to have that childhood. I feel very, very blessed that I got that time with my family to run around as a wild child. And it was so much fun! It’s so much fun to have parents that just jump in with you and go.”
“I think my dad [the late Steve Irwin] was a very good example,” she continued. “What you saw on television was really him. He just had this hurricane-like energy; he would always just pick us up and off we’d go on an adventure together. And it was the very best.”
Now Bindi is passing on that love of adventure and wildlife on to her daughter. It’s such a precious, full-circle moment, and we know Steve would be proud.
