A ‘Tense’ Year Has Allegedly Altered Kate Middleton & Prince William’s Christmas Plan — & Their Shopping List

The royal family‘s holiday celebrations are already in full swing. Last week, they attended the “Together At Christmas” Carol Service at Westminster Abbey where Princess Charlotte rocked the same timeless peacoat she wore last year, and now sources say they have their Christmas plans set. Plans that definitely may have changed over the course of the year.

On Christmas Day, Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis will join other royals at the traditional mass at St. Mary Magdalene and the celebration at Sandringham Estate. They will also visit a homeless shelter and keep with their tradition of doing something charitable on Christmas.

But sources say they will then go their own way. And if there was ever a year to say “toodle-oo” to the extended family, it’s this year.

“Kate and William are looking forward to a break with the kids [since] this year has been fraught with tension,” an insider told Us Weekly. “They really need a couple weeks to spend with their nuclear family.”

After the big day, the source said the family of five will vacation somewhere “relaxing” in the commonwealth. Somewhere with a beach for the royals to enjoy.

And though the holidays are usually a time for families to come together (at least at some point), Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not been invited to the beachside getaway. They also, apparently, shouldn’t be holding their breath for any kind of festive acknowledgements, per the insider.

“Kate and William do not plan on sending any gifts or cards to Harry and Meghan. There’s still no relationship there currently.”

Because, again, this year has been “fraught with tension” given the release of two bombshell tell-alls — Spare by Prince Harry and Endgameby Omid Scobie — that have created a seemingly irreperable rift between the heir and the (former) spare. So why would big bro send a present to someone who is definitely on his naughty list?

The source did not confirm whether Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s kids, Prince Archie, 4 and Princess Lilibet, 2 can expect gifts from their cousins. It’s certainly sad to think of any of the young royals getting caught in the adults’ crossfire.

But even if the year was devoid of tension, it’s nice to think that Will and Kate will be able to spend some time alone with their growing kids (ages 5-10). Sometimes “nuclear family” time is exactly what the doctor ordered — royal rift or not!
