I made the poor decision of taking a sip of coffee before looking at a rare childhood photo of Kate Middleton, and I nearly did a sitcom-like spit take. Because when she was a toddler, she looked exactly like one of her three kiddos.
The photo is of her at the Christmas dinner table when she was just shy of 2 years old. And not only is it cool to see a throwback picture of the Princess of Wales, but it’s astounding to see that she could be her son Prince Louis‘ twin! She has short brown curls, pinchable cheeks, and was caught with a totally unimpressed expression.
Kate posted the photo on the official Prince and Princess of Wales Instagram account as part of her Shaping Us campaign that focuses on the needs of children in their first five years of life. The campaign inspired her annual Christmas carol event that was held earlier this month, and in the weeks leading up to the event, Kate asked people to share images of their earliest holiday celebrations. So it was only fitting that she did the same.
“Sharing some festive memories this Christmas because #ShapingUs is all about the vital importance of our early years and the role played by those around us in shaping the rest of our lives,” the caption said.
And we weren’t the only ones who saw the uncanny resemblance between 2-year-old Kate and her 5-year-old son. Followers couldn’t get over it either.
“I see Prince Louis 😍😍” “Definitely Louis” “A little version of Louis ❤️” “Omg that’s just Louis😭😭😭” “I think we can all agree Louis is the splitting image of his mother…..the Middleton gene is visible” “You’re absolutely lying, this is Louis 😭👌🏽”
Sorry, Prince William! Louis is 100 percent his mama.
Over the weekend, Kate shared an introduction to the concert — which will air on Christmas Eve — in which she said Christmas is a time to come together and celebrate the birth of a newborn.
“The arrival of every baby is a precious and momentous time, it brings us together to reflect on new beginnings and brings hope for the future,” she said. “Throughout our earliest interactions, relationships and experiences, with those who love us, even before we are born, we lay the foundations to so much of what that future will depend on. But only by valuing and supporting the vital role of the adults in a child’s world can we hope to make a difference.”
“…From parents and carers to early educators, midwives, health visitors, and community volunteers, thank you for all you do in helping the very youngest members of our communities, feel safe, valued and loved,” Kate continued. “This is not just making a difference to children today, it will go on to shape a happier, healthier, fairer world in the future.”
Prince Louis and his older siblings, Prince George, 10 and Princess Charlotte, 8, attended the concert and helped their mom in her philanthropic efforts leading up to the holidays. They went with her to a baby bank where they helped pack gifts for disadvantaged families. “You’re the volunteers for this evening,” she told her kids, teaching them that this season is about giving their time and their resources…and unbelievable throwback photos!
