When it comes to social media, it is such a fickle concept when you’re a parent. You constantly ask yourself, “Are they old enough for social media?,” “Are they using it too much?,” “Could not using it somehow affect their social skills?” The list goes on. However, after so much data has been shared about the heavy mental toll social media takes on all age groups, many parents, including celebrity parents, are taking a strict stance on when/if their kids could have an account. Another celebrity who has talked about how she intends to deal with social media and her children is Kelly Clarkson.
In a recent interview with People, Clarkson said that while she navigates co-parenting with her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, she’s standing firm on one major rule: no social media under her roof.
“That can be really hard on kids in general but especially kids with parents in the public eye,” she said. “So I have informed them they’re not allowed to, under my roof, ever have [it].”
Many parents and fans leaped to applaud her for this decision, saying things on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter: “Her house her rules Better mental health and well being 💯 all in,” and “I think it’s smart. She also said she would revisit it when they get a little older. If it wasn’t so toxic in so many ways, she wouldn’t even have to think so long and hard about it. Great job Kelly.”
Many celebrities have talked about how they have, or will handle social media, and we’re happy to see that so many are trying to prioritize their kids’ mental health above all else.
For those who don’t know, Clarkson shares two children with her ex-husband Blackstock: a daughter named River Rose, born in June 2014, and a son named Remington “Remy” Alexander, born in April 2016.
