Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert’s divorce just got messier. A year after the couple originally filed for divorce, Taylor submitted new documents that include damning details about Shumpert’s parenting. The actress alleges that when the former NBA star watches their daughters — Iman “Junie” Tayla Shumpert Jr., 8 and Rue Rose, 3 — he “consistently fails to properly care for [them].”
In the filing, obtained by People, Taylor claims Shumpert “fails to feed them” and that he has been “smoking marijuana and being under the influence while caring for the minor children.”
Shumpert is also accused of placing his daughters “in a rideshare in Chicago, which resulted in the minor children being dropped off at the United Center in general population while he utilized the services of a private driver.”
Taylor’s attorney ultimately said Shumpert “consistently demonstrates a clear disregard” for Junie and Rue.
This filing is in stark contrast with what Taylor said when she first spoke publicly about the divorce.
“Iman and I are separated and have been for a while,” Taylor captioned an Instagram post in Sept. 2023. “To be 1000% clear, ‘infidelity’ ain’t one of the reasons for our departure. We are still the best of friends, great business partners and are one hell of a team when it comes to co-parenting our 2 beautiful children.”
“Most importantly we are FAMILY & in the 10yrs together, 7yrs married, we ain’t ever played with or about THAT,” she continued. “We just keep y’all asses out the group chat lol, which is the reason we’ve been able to successfully & peacefully separate without all of the outside noise. The only reason I’m even sharing THIS part of the chat is because the narratives are getting a little out of hand & it’s unfair to all parties involved. I hope this provided some clarity for y’all.”
Junie took her parents by surprise in Dec. 2015 when she was born a month early at home. “Not knowing I was in labor until I felt her head … it took two 10 count pushes with my fiancé playing doctor and she entered this world into his bare hands!” the singer said on Instagram. “Eyes full of tears and barely able to speak to the emergency operator, [Iman] tied a pair of red headphones around the umbilical cord. The ambulance made their grand entrance five minutes later.”
Rue, following in the footsteps of her big sis, also arrived early and was also delivered at home. Just one day after her mom’s baby shower. Shumpert said in his announcement that Rue must have decided the party was too lit.
“Now…when we buy homes, we always find a bathroom with great energy… but not in a million years would you be able to tell me we’d deliver both of our daughters in a bathroom without the assistance of a hospital!” he said. “…A healthy child. A little sister. Another daughter. Black love wins….again. Welcome baby girl…we love you!”
