After 9 months of secrecy, Halle Bailey is opening up to followers about her pregnancy and why she kept the exciting news under wraps. During a Snapchat Q&A, one follower said, “We love you and are happy with whatever you decide to share.”
“I really, really appreciates people like you who are so kind and understanding, especially of me wanting to wait to share something this sacred and beautiful,” the star of The Little Mermaidsaid.
“I just wanted to make sure I had a beautiful, private healthy time in my journey.”
Bailey welcomed a baby boy in Dec. 2023 with boyfriend DDG.
“even though we’re a few days into the new year, the greatest thing that 2023 could have done for me, was bring me my son.. welcome to the world my halo 🥰👼🏽 ✨the world is desperate to know you 😉🤣♥️,” she captioned a photo on Instagram of her holding the newborn’s hand. On his wrist was a precious personalized gold bracelet.
Another follower asked if dealing with the media was stressful during her pregnancy, and the actress conceeded that yes, “a little bit.”
“Honestly I stayed off of all social media. I really tried to just keep myself sane and I know that there was a lot of people who would always comment and be like, ‘We know [you’re pregnant] girl, we know.’ And I’m like, ‘OK, that’s great that you know, but I’m just going to chill.'”
A lot of people confronted the couple about Bailey being pregnant. Late last year, DDG took to Snapchat to answer a follower who asked if he and Bailey had a daughter.
“No but I don’t know why people is like so invested…mind your business,” the rapper said, encouraging followers to focus on themselves instead. “Whatever’s going on in my life or her life is not going to change yours. “Let’s try to lock in on ourselves in 2024. Not other people.”
It certainly didn’t help Bailey and DDG keep things hush-hush when a quote about motherhood was misattributed to Bailey in Oct. 2023. A correction did nothing to dissuade busybodies who insisted the The Color Purple star had a “pregnancy nose.” Bailey [rightfully!] said there would be “hell to pay” if she heard one more comment about her nose.
“I am black. I love my nose. Leave me the hell alone.”
A follower also asked Bailey how she had the energey to do red carpets and photo shoots for The Color Purple while pregnant.
“I think it was helpful for me to be able to still be working and have something to promote, like the beautiful film I was a part of,” she said. “Things like that, it just helps my brain and to feel sane. Because there’s a lot of emotional vulnerability that you experience going through all of that.”
After Bailey introduced Halo to the world, there were mixed reactions from followers. There were those like Khloe Kardashian who had nothing but lovely things to say: “Congratulations mommy!!!! Welcome to the world sweet Halo! What a blessing!! This is when life gets even better 🩵🩵🩵🩵” There were those who were shocked: “SO SHE WAS PREGNANT ALL ALONG WHAT ?!” And those who were in “I told you so” mode: “It was not that hard to figure out.”
*Sigh* Something the internet will soon teach you, Bailey, is that they’re always right and they always think they have a right to your child’s life. We don’t blame you for joining the club of celebrities who kept their baby news a secret. Protect your peace while you can, Mama.
These celebs were quick to shut down pregnancy speculation.
