Lionel Richie‘s eldest grandkids don’t call him grandpa, and the newest addition to his family won’t be convincing him to go by the classic familial moniker either.
On Monday, the iconic musician chatted with Entertainment Tonight during the premiere of his documentary, The Greatest Night in Pop. His youngest daughter, Sofia Richie Grainge, recently made headlines with the news of her first pregnancy, and the “Hello” singer was bubbling with excitement about having another grandchild on the way.
“My baby is having a baby,” Richie exclaimed, adding, “And I’m so thrilled for Elliot and Sofia. They are just over the moon.”
The 25-year-old and her husband, Elliot Grainge, shared a heartwarming video of a private gender reveal on Sunday, letting the world know they’re having a baby girl. When asked about the reveal, Richie admitted he didn’t know his daughter posted the news online. He joked, “You know, there is no secret with those two! I keep saying, ‘Keep it a secret, OK?’ But yes, that’s what’s happening. I’m so happy,” the proud dad gushed.
In addition to Richie Grainge, the “All Night Long” singer is also father to elder daughter Nicole Richie, 42, and son Miles Richie, 29. While her brother doesn’t have kids, The Simple Life alum shares a daughter and son — Harlow, 16, and Sparrow, 14 — with her husband, Good Charlotte frontman Joel Madden.
Since Lionel first became a grandfather in 2008, he’s turned down the “grandpa” title in favor of a more playful moniker. “I’m Pop-Pop,” the R&B crooner explained to ET. He continued, “We don’t get the ‘grandpa,’ yeah, that’s a little deep. Pop-Pop is where we’re going.”
Richie Grainge told Vogue her little girl is a Gemini, meaning you can expect news of her bundle of joy arriving earthside between May 21 and June 20.
