Picture this: it’s the middle of the night. You hear something rustling in your room, so you try to rub the tired out of your bleary eyes. It’s not an intruder — it’s your toddler. Your fully-awake, ready-to-start-the-day child who is demanding breakfast and attention and all the things … hours before your alarm is set to go off. It’s brutal! (There’s a reason sleep deprivation is a form of torture.) Olivia Munn is dealing with this right now with her 2-year-old son Malcolm, but she has a plan that helps with (at least part) of her new morning routine.
The Newsroom alum, who shares Malcolm with boyfriend John Mulaney, shared a genius mom hack to ensure you still get a delicious breakfast on mornings when you are half-asleep and exhausted trying to take care of your early-bird child.
Early Mornings
“Malcolm is waking up so early (4-5am 😵💫) and wants to play immediately so we don’t have time to make a breakfast for ourselves,” Munn wrote on her Instagram story on Tuesday.
So her pro tip? Make breakfast the night before! “So I’m making our breakfasts at night so we just have to heat them up in the morning,” Munn explained. She also shared a video of her breakfast, as she cooked eggs in one pan and sausage patties in the other. In a second video, she shared her finished creation: “Homemade sausage egg and cheese McMuffins.” She showed off the delicious, protein-packed breakfast on an English muffin, which she wrapped up to put in the fridge for morning. Now our mouths are watering, because that looked amazing!
Sure, you could just try to cook in the morning with a wide-awake, demanding toddler on hand, or get by with just handfuls of dry cereal and bites of the banana your kid doesn’t want (breakfast of champions!), but this looks so much better. And if you aren’t hangry, you’re much more likely to enjoy this time with your kid, even if the sun isn’t up yet.
Heartfelt Moments
Earlier this month, the Hit-Monkey star proved she was trying to focus on the important things in life (like not getting mad when her toddler wakes up early) with the sweetest Instagram post. She shared a video of her son Malcolm giggling and playing with his mom in their backyard, as he got ready to splash around in an inflatable pool.
“If I knew earlier in my life that this magical boy would be in my future, I wouldn’t have worried so much about all the little things,” she captioned the heartwarming video.
Parenting isn’t always easy, but if you can roll with the punches, stay flexible, and adapt your routine to fit your kids’ ever-changing needs, then you’ll be just fine!
