It’s happening again, folks! The wife or girlfriend of an NFL player competing in the Super Bowl is set to have a baby very close to the big day, and it has us feeling major déjà vu. Fred Warner of the San Francisco 49ers is expecting a baby with his wife Sydney, and she’ll be 35 weeks pregnant when Warner faces off against the Kansas City Chiefs. Eek!
Sydney told Peopleshe’s been cleared to fly to Las Vegas, so long as nothing changes this week. It’s a topic she had been discussing with her doctors on the down low.
“I was like, ‘I’m not gonna speak anything into existence, but let’s say we got there,'” she told the media outlet. “I’m very superstitious. I asked, ‘Would you clear me to fly?’ And she said yes.”
She just needs to “take it as easy as she can,” stay “really, really hydrated,” and try not to walk too much on Sunday. “So I’m just going to make sure I get some vitamin C packs and try not to jump around too much.”
Sydney said the whole experience has been like something out of a movie. “You can’t write this stuff. And we’ll be able to have these memories forever, will be able to tell our son and show him pictures like of his mother pregnant with him and his dad, so excited to meet him, literally at the Super Bowl.”
(We’re not crying, you’re crying!)
The Warners are not the only couple to have felt this way.
Jason Kelce & Kylie Kelce
Kylie Kelce made headlines last year when her husband Jason Kelce let it slip that she would be bringing her OB with her to the Super Bowl. She was 38 weeks pregnant with their third daughter at the time.
“If she has a baby in the stadium, [the Kelce Bowl] is officially scripted,” Jason said on the podcast he hosts with brother Travis Kelce.
Little Bennett waited a few more weeks to join her big sisters Wyatt, 4 and Elliotte, 2.
Nick Allegretti & Christina Allegretti
Two Kansas City Chiefs players welcomed babies during the Super Bowl last year. Offensive lineman Nick Allegretti’s wife gave birth to twin girls that morning. The new dad was able to keep his wife and his baby girls company via FaceTime from the hotel lobby.
Mecole Hardman Jr. & Chariah Gordon
Next up, Mecole Hardman Jr.’s girlfriend Chariah Gordon welcomed a baby boy. The wide receiver wasn’t playing in the Super Bowl because of an injury, so he got to be there for his son’s birth. “He’s HERE !!!!!!” the new dad tweeted.
Van Jefferson & Samaria Jefferson
After winning the 2022 Super Bowl, Van Jefferson of the L.A. Rams ran to the hospital to meet his newborn son. Samaria had “prayed to God” that her water wouldn’t break and she could be at the game “supporting her husband 100%.” But their son Champ had other ideas.
“I think it’s very fitting to name him Champ,” the wide receiver said. “We looked it up and Champ is like a warrior and my wife is a warrior like what she did throughout this whole [crazy] week of Super Bowl…”
“He’s a champ, and she’s a warrior,” he continued. “So Champ Curtis Jefferson.”
It doesn’t get much more storybook than that.
